Resurfacing

Strange to see workmen resurfacing the bit of Acton High Street this evening, from Horn Lane to Crown Street. All this was just newly resurfaced when the roundabout was put in. I wonder why the work is needed?

Be fantastic if our Councillors or an Officer could take the trouble to let us know when they plan to partially close the High Street. I had yo help an elderly gentleman home last night when we all discovered King Street bus stop had been closed without warning.

There are so many other streets in dire need of resurfacing. Seems so strange to do the same ones over again, even if they don't quite meet specification.

Half of the road between the lights outside West Acton station and the mini roundabout was being resurfaced on Monday evening - odd as it looked ok before. The grading of roads is a dark art, with some odd machinery used to test its structural integrity and give it a score out of 100. Still, one can't accuse the Council of pre-election gimmicks (unless it's a very incompetent one).

The parking spaces and loading bay outside the stretch of shops where we are have had their white markings re-done 3 times in the last 6 months

The junction at Church Road/Acton High Street/Market Place is getting worse now, there is no safe place to cross the road and the small island where one would cross between Ludlow Thompson Estate Agents/Paddy Power has been blocked off!An elderly gentleman was just taking his life in his hands trying to cross Acton High Street today. There are no markings and people are so used to having a crossing at that location they are not going to walk down to The Oaks to cross the road.Many elderly patients attend Acton Health Centre and I feel this is an accident just waiting to happen. Traffic speeds by and people are trying to dodge between the vehicles.I wonder what the plans are and just how long will it take before this dangerous junction is made safe again?

It's quite hard to resurface a road without first taking away the surface and all the markings. I'm sure this section will be sorted in a day or two. I'm sure they could also do it all in one go, but then people would complain they closed the road.

Nick if you know something about it I wish you'd tell us. Or get you informant to do so. Temporary signs would help. I spent an hour this morning helping an elderly neighbour get to her GP. She couldn't figure out how to cross the road on her own.

I wrote to Streetwatchers who passed my email on to the correct delartment, today I had 2 email messages assuring me that this work shoud be completed in 2 days and apologies for inconvenience. However I do think that signs would have bee  helpful to avoid the confusion.  Let's hope they complete this work on schedule.

That is nice Jean but would it be possible for Street watcher  to persuade this department to tell the wider public of the intentions? I'm told this forum is read by 3000 residents.  They could start by telling us. Cost nothing.

Maire,You may get further details from Highways Department, the person who wrote to me is Saad Tokatly.Hopefully the work will be completed soon.
