Bus fire on west way west bound

We were driving into town when we passed a blue tourist bus on the westbound carriageway, wholly ablaze with flames about 40 feet high. If anyone was on board, I fea they won't have survived - and we saw no-one who looked as if they had got off.It had just happened - we saw the smoke starting as we left Acton -Apart from possible deaths and injury, there will be traffic chaos westbound all evening I would think.

No one was hurt according to the report in the news section of this site.

I've seen those buses driving empty into town when I cycle in in the morning, so I think their depot is out this way - probably only the driver on board. Or it's a very odd tour bus that takes in the sights of A40 flyover ;)I work very close, we watched the huge plume of smoke out of the window for a bit, so glad that no one was injured.

Didn't something similar happen on the Chiswick flyover a couple of years ago? You'd think that if any vehicle would be properly maintained, it'd be a bus!

That's good news - it must have been empty save for the driver as it looked impossible to escape from.It hadn't turned over or crashed so I wonder how it started

Electrical fault? Fluid leak onto a hot manifold after a pipe/hose burst?These things happen even on the most well maintained vehicle.The key thing is no one was hurt.

What a shock for everyone seeing that sight.A similar incident was only 12 months ago westbound on the M4 at Heston when an empty tourist bus went up in flames.
