I actually wrote to Angie Bray and she replied very promptly: I am well aware of the pollution problems caused by the Horn Lane industrial site and noise too. I have in fact spoken twice in Parliament about it, complaining that both the council and the Environment Agency do not seem to do very much to protect local residents. Last year I set up a series of meetings - approx quarterly - hosted by Aggregates at the office on the site, for residents to discuss problems with the operators on the site, councillors, officers, representatives from City Hall and the Environment Agency and usually me too. We have another in early September. Last week, I met the Mayor London's Head of Policy, Sir Edward Lister along with our council leader, Julian Bell to discuss the future of the site. Sir Edward and I are pressing for a meeting with the new Chairman of the Environment as soon as he starts in his role in early September to discuss what powers they actually have and how they intend to enforce them. If we are not satisfied we intend to set up a meeting with the new Secretary of State for the Environment to see what more can be done. I consider it unacceptable that the residents are treated with such cavalier disregard and will do all I can to get some improvements. Of course the course of action that I would most favour is to re-zone the whole Industrial site so that it can become a location for offices which would work well with the new Acton Mainline Crossrail station soon to be built.
