Who is dumping all the mattresses?

Anyone else noticed the sudden appearance of double mattresses being dumped in Acton?  Rosemount, Alfred and Goldsmith..... spotted today.  Annoying and lazy.....  Also worth noting is that skips are paid for by your neighbours and are not for filling with your old tutt.  Take it to the dump!  Fewwwwmin

The bottom of Goldsmith Road where it meets Churchfield seems to be particularly favoured by fly-tippers. Is there now a mattress there as well?I've reported dumping five time in the last ten days and the enviro-crime officer is supposed to be thinking up a strategy (I hope it involves CCTV)

Two doubles dumped on my drive next to my very expensive covered skip.  Last week we had quilts and pillows.  Sends me loony.... The recycling centre on Stirling Road is brilliant, folk are just too lazy to head there :-(

Not just laziness - they don't allow vans (commercial waste), so any unscrupulous people with vans will just dump it on the street.

Sometimes it is builders employed to do a quick tarting up of accommodation getting rid of whatever the previous occupants have left.  Builders of course have vans and vans are not allowed into Stirling Road.I expect the landlord may have already kept some deposit for removal of what's left behind.  When the tenants take stuff to Stirling Road it is household waste but when the landlord or the builders take it it has become commercial waste.This is a very good reason for giving your neighbours and your students a hand when they move out. Oxford Brookes University was working with a charity to help their students  donate stuff for reuse rather than leave it behind or binning it.  This is something that we should ask for from more educational establishments.

Plenty of them here too.Happens every year at the end of summer.New tenants, new mattresses.Cheaper for the landlords to dump the old ones than pay..

If more people used mattress covers or toppers then I think they would be in a better position to give away or sell their mattresses.  If you have a student going off to uni please put this on the list...

Don't you know how it works? Some guys, quite often from travelling communities, drive around in vans and see items left in someone's front garden and offer to take them away to be dumped for say £10.Hence the pile of mattresses...

I agree with Bob and Keith.  Lazy landlords, lazy tenants, ruthless, unscrupulous "pay me and I'll take it away for you" type people.  If we know who's dumped the mattress or anything else, having seen them do it, we aren't opposed to dumping it straight back in their front garden.  Works a treat.  :-)

It's sheer laziness - and after all, most suppliers of new matresses will take the old one and dispose of it properly

I am getting really fed up of people leaving their old polish beer cans and sandwich wrappers on top of the electric box outside my house in Poet's corner. It's every single day! Some of the rubbish is shoved behind the box between the box and my fence and I am too scared of spiders to attempt to clean it out. The council doesn't do anything about it either. The bin men don't even put my bin back neatly, last week they left the bin on it's side and the lid was just thrown a few feet from there. I can't tell you how frustrated I get when I get home from work as I am literally cleaning up after lazy people with no consideration for others and it's just not fair! Rant over.

There's always lager cans in Acton Park too.  I don't want to generalise, but there are often builders, decorators and so on, sitting on the log by the pond, drinking.  They always leave their plastic bags and cans behind, which is such a shame as cans end up in the pond.THere's a mattress at the A40, under the footbridge, which I reported last week to the council.  It's still there.

Agreed Angela.  Dumping them back where they came from can also work with black sacks put out too early or placed on the pavement.Stepping over it because it isn't yours and ignoring it is the same as tacitly agreeing that it should be there and it is acceptable behaviour to put it there.I liked the collection that H&F had on view in King Street in a large glass or plastic case showing all the litter that had been dropped in a particular period of time.

Do they still give you reference numbers when you report something?Otherwise have you tried reporting things on www.fixmystreet.com      It is good to be able to see that someone has reported something and they will decide which department/authority to send the message to - so that saves a lot of aggro.  Also you get a message to ask you whether and what action has been taken etc.  See:  https://www.mysociety.org/report-street-problems/?gclid=CMb4yuSKhsECFUXLtAodeiwAggI like the way they are more interested in the problem and reporting it than collecting your own personal data - and you have a record of what and when you reported.

They do, but I despair with the council. Even when I made a formal complaint about the rubbish collections, I got an automated letter confirming I would get a response within 10 days.  I didn't.

Thanks. I have emailed the council again and I have reported it on FIxMyStreet. I also reported dog fouling. I know we are near Acton Park but in the last few days people have let their dogs do their mess in front of our front door and haven't cleaned it up. I now have to wash the pavement when I get home from work as i almost stepped on it when leaving the house this morning.Really getting on my nerves how people can be so selfish. If you can't clean up after your dog, you shouldn't have a dog!!

Being near the park is no excuse for people allowing their dogs to foul your garden.  They shouldn't be fouling pavements or the park either!  But yes, if people don't want to clean up after their dog, don't get a dog!

If you report dog fouling (or vomit, blood and other nasties) the council are supposed to come within 24 hours and sort it...But there is a load of crud again at the back of Nara beauty so I shall chase that again - it's supposed to be a "grot spot" with extra vigilance - but no sign!

Woo Hoo they cleaned the beer cans, etc from the box outside my house as well as the dog poo! No idea if this is because of the post on fixmystreet but it's finally been cleaned. What a great start to the week
