Has anyone got any experience of this, I am currently afflicted and would be grateful for advice like what therapies work and what is a waste of time.

Oh no, Kim! I had it 2 years ago and when all my doctor could offer was Ibubrufen and Diazepam (to relax muscles), I went to the Thai place on the Uxbridge Rd at Acton Hill. Had movement back in no time! Their phone no is 0208-7520302. Good luck!
