Stirling road recycling centre Acton

Anyone heard the rumour that this centre will close next year?

No I haven't, but it would surely only make fly-tipping in Acton even worser?

I'd be most disappointed if Stirling Road Recycling Centre were to close - I find it a most efficient, clean and well run depot with helpful staff - please say its possible demise is only an urban myth.

Helpful staff! The only help I have had from the Stirling road dump was a finger pointed at a container from a seated member of staff.The Staff at the Park royal centre actually help take stuff out of the car.Still, Stirling road is usefully placed and I use it frequently.The yobs who fly tip are not the responsible, socially minded citizen currently using the dump they just empty the contents of their vans wherever they think they can get away with it. There was a bed wedged between the  Armco between the 2 lanes of the A316 yesterday!

The council (and most people on this site) assume everyone has a car.  I don't, but I take some items to stirling road on the bus. If they close it, what are my realistic choices?

Yep I also don't have a car and find it very handy to drop stuff off there and it's always busy when I go.

There was a possibility of closure when it was going to be the site for a new swimming pool and leisure centre but I don't think there are any plans to shut it at the moment.

Well if they do decide to close Stirling Road site Acton will be more ofma dumping ground than it is already.  Every time we have a skip in our road this seems to attract dumped mattresses, settees, fridge freezers, what is wrong with these people? Too blooming lazy and antisocial that's the problem and I am fed up reporting these incidents.

It has sadly always been that way Jean which is why ensuring you fill up ASAP is the key requirement (with tightly wrapped rope and tarpaulins to stop others dumping when left overnight).

I might be wrong but I think Stirling Road doesn't take mattresses and fridge freezers. You have to go to Greenford with those.

Or leave them at the corner of Goldsmith Road and Churchfield Road of course...which seems to be the preferred method of disposal.

That's just one hotspot of many.  The footbridge between Goldsmith & Perryn Roads, Vyner Road, the A40, East Acton Lane, Warple Way...

ChiswickW4 forum seems rather sure Stirling Road is about to close - surveyors on site being leading reason.How worried should we be? Closing it would be an unusually rubbish idea even by the standards of this council!

It would be lunacy. I for one wouldn't go to park royal as I don't have a car. Recycling rates will drop, more will go to landfill and get dumped on the streets.

I've tweeted Cllr Bassam Mahfouz to ask if there is any truth in this rumour. I'll post any reply on here. Surely this is something that would require a full  consultation and possibly approval from DEFRA and DCLG, given the potential environmental impacts and government recycling targets.

There is a very large recycling centre in park Royal which since discovering is my first call. It is much bigger than Stirling road and has staff that actually get off their backsides to help unload a car. Whilst I am against the closure of Stirling road as it is convenient and I use regularly if I am going that way, Park Royal does take a wider range of waste.I still believe that fly tippers are not the kind of people that use the dumps, just lazy scum for whom the closure of a dump will make no difference.

Sadly Kim, increasing evidence that some fly tippers especially in more rural areas are being paid by others to take rubbish away and then simply "dumping" free of charge on other's private land.Getting to be a wider national issue than I ever knew sadly.

I've only ever used Stirling Road. Whereabouts is the Park Royal one? I tried looking on the ealing website but it only mentions Stirling Road. thanks

There's one on Abbey Road in Park Royal - takes a wide variety of stuff.It's in Brent - as most of Park Royal is, so won't appear on Ealing Council websites, I presume?http://brent.gov.uk/services-for-residents/recycling-and-waste/recycling-sites-in-brent/abbey-road-brent-reuse-and-recycling-centre/

That's a complete non-starter for anyone without a car, no matter how helpful the staff may be.  I can take small items to Stirling road on foot or bus.  And it's Ealing's responsibility to provide this service, not leave it up to a neighbouring council.I hope this is just a false rumour.

Well thanks to some selfish flytipper I am sitting here today with a badly gashed and swollen knee and aching joints after tripping over a dumped bed base in our street yesterday morning!I acutally reported this item a week ago to Streetwatchers but it was still there yesterday with a wire protruding from the base which I failed to see.Sometimes I wonder whether I am wasting my time reporting things because the response time with Enterprise is betting worse.I have written to Streetwatchers with photograph of injury and a complaint. Not that it will change much!

The Park Royal Recycling centre is on Abbey road.If you head to Central Middlesex hospital, turn left at the lights opposite the hospital the right immediately. this is Abbey road, follow this as if you are going to the north Circular. The recycling centre is near the access to the North circular.I went to Stirling road and asked the staff. They are kept in the dark but someone was measuring the depth of the concrete and amenities. the guy seemed to think  they would be closed around the end of the year.

Today there was a queue to get in the recycling centre as onmany days. It is absurd to close such a well used amenity. I suppose they expect we will all pay the extra charge to have our garden waste removed and the fees to have larger items taken away.No doubt opportunist fly tippers are already rubbing their hand at the prospect of all the extra business they will get offering households to take away their waste. Then dumping it round the corner.

On Tuesday two staff at the site told me surveyors spent 2 days measuring up and tracing the power supply lines.Await official council notice does it stays or does it go.

I also use this dump most commonly and agree that staff not always over-eager to assist however better than the enormo-dump in Kingston where I work where they ask of proof you are a council tax-payer before you get in lane for whichever thing you are dumping

Let's hope they decide they'll increase the number of things that we can't recycle elsewhere here.  (I remember writing to the Council to ask them to take cardboard here before we had kerbside cardboard collection.  That seems a very long time ago now!)
