Any spare wool?

Aunty Essie - who is in her nineties and housebound - knits hats and scarves for my asylum seekers for Xmas....but she is out of wool and says lots of people have spare wool and I shouldn't buy it.So if anyone has double-knit wool to spare - even a few balls - do please let me know and I will get it to herThanks

Thanks so much - Rosy brought round some grey and green. I would love some bright colours too - Aunty Essie seems to manage to alternate them and make fetching stripes and designs.

Sarah -  have you tried the charity shops - they often have quite a bit of wool bought in to them.

Now I have a volunteer mitten-knitter - but no pattern for them?So anyone have mitten patterns?Ok, I realise this is a bit of a long-shot!

Mum used not only to knit all these sorts of things but also used to unravel hand-knitted jumpers and re-knit the worn elbows.  I remember wool being wound around the legs of an upturned chair on the kitchen table.  Then it was washed and dried to take the wiggles out of it  None of this just chucking something out because it had a hole in it or because we were bored with it!Randomly striped scarfs, hats and mittens a speciality!Good luck Sara with your great effort!

There's an excellent web site www.Ravelry.com which has loads of patterns for every garment under the sun.  I've been knitting mittens for a couple of charities for a few years now and have used many of their patterns.  Most are free, some chargeable, some very simple and others very complicated.  Take your pick!

Alert your new knitter to the site Ravelry.com this is a fantastic world wide community of knitters and there is a huge pattern section. It is free to join just need a user name and password.

I'll tell her - I looked myself but, frankly, Ancient Greek would have been more understandable for me.Happy to co-ordinate wool/knitters/asylum-seeking babes but not capable of reading a knitting pattern - let alone wielding the needles.
