Churchfield Community Association 26th November

Immediately following the AGM, there will be an open meeting on Health in Acton which should be of interest to most of the forum. Speakers include a local GP, a representative of Save our Hospitals, the Chair of Healthwatch Ealing. Everyone is welcome and there will be free food from LOriental. Helpful but not essential if you say in advance that you plan to attend, so we can think about chairs and numbers.7.30 start at St. Mary's Church Hall.

St. MARYS CHURCH IS RIGHT IN THE CENTRE OF Acton. The bus stop is King Street. You should be able to park in Morrison's car park. The church hall entrance is to the right t of the lovely main entrance to the church itself. You will be welcome.

We'll be looking at two aspects of this: how the major changes in the way the NHS is run locally will impact on us; and what effect all the new housing developments in Acton will have on our GPs and other local health services.Our speakers will be:    Dr Naz Pambakian, the longest-serving GP at Crown Street Surgery (25 years)    Suzanne Lyn Taylor, director, Healthwatch Ealing    Merril Hammer, chair, Save Our Hospitals (Charing Cross & Hammersmith)They will each speak for 5–10 minutes and then the floor will be opened for questions from the audience.

Quite a good turnout for a wet November evening - we missed you Gerry.Our GP was particularly intersting about the stresses to primary care and there was a very good question about new development (rife in Acton at the moment) and the challenges that gives existing services - such as doctors and why that is never taken into account.Apparently they can't even close their lists any more. I still can't quite see the point of HelathWatch though the director tried and Save Our Hospitals woman was well-informed and rather compelling.

The point of Healthwatch is the scrutiny of any and all decisions on  provision of health services to residents of this borough. Healthwatch surveys residents on specific projects, most recently service provided by Ealing and West Middlesex hospitals prior to inspection. It offers training in to residents in  healthier ways to live, takes a seat on all strategic boards, ensures appropriate questions are asked and residents views are taken into account. if you want your voice heard on rhe NHS here in Acton, they are on the hunt for more volunteers.Look at the website or pm me for a membership form. You can't say you don't know if you don't ask.

Residents views wont be taken into account it is simply a facade.  If residents views were relevant all local A&E were not be closed,  most Drs I know think the NHS is in chaos and getting worse I really do not see what difference a little meeting will have. Sorry to sound negative but that is my view.

But Georgina is right isn't she?is there any evidence that any local consultation actually takes the views of residents into consideration?The A&E one was a total travesty.So are planning "consultations"As was the "Town Hall Team"And before that, the Tram one sticks out.Can anyone think of one where a consultation - rather than either legal action or an election defeat - has made ANY difference whatsoever?

At the Consultation meeting on cuts to services, Julian Bell spoke on that very topic. He agreed with you that many consultations don't succeed, but said the Cabinet would listen to suggestions. The Council is sitting on reserves of £100,000,000 and one thought is to use a little of that money to keep the Solace centre. The response to that consultation is enthusiastically under way. if you have any relatives or friends with enduring mental health problems, I wish you would consider responding too.
