Christmas Lights in Acton

I see that Ealng is ahead again with Christmas lights and a tree in the shopping centre.Once again Acton lags behind. Any idea when we will have some decorations to liven Acton High Street up?

The lights are already up on the High Street and Churchfield Road! Unless I was seeing things when I walked back from QPR tonight!

Thanks James, We didn't go there today but a couple of days ago there were no Christmas Lights to be seen! Must have just done them then!

Oddly, the street lights only go up to the Rocket - there's is nothing east of there at all.Didn't they go to the other side of the level crossing last year?

No theyve only ever gone up the shop side. Never east churchfield rd

When I had Bombay Bistro there were no Christmas lights on that stretch of road. They stopped at Grove Road and everywhere else went dark and dismal.I phoned the council who, very reluctantly, agreed to put more lights up, but only a few as they couldn't afford to go up to the bridge.Surely the centre of jolly old Acton is from the bridge up to Steyne Road...at least.We all pay our rates!

I think you are talking about the High Street, Sarah...I was holding forth about Churchfield Road....where there are ssome lovely decorations by shops and the baubles outside the new estate agents and Village Trading. (hope they last!)

Acton always seems to be the Cinderella as far as Ealiing Council is concerned.We used to have a lovely Christmas Tree outside Morrisons, perhaps they don't want to upset some of the residents in Acton? Just saying!

Yes, Sara, I was talking about the High Street. Didn't know there was the same problem on Churchfield which, by the way, seems to look a lot more Christmassy than the High Street despite that.And what are they going to do to improve Acton?Build that horrible thing/trendy shopping centre!While the High street still looks a dreary mess.

James,Thought I was the only one who walked to Loftus Rd and back after the matches. Great win on Sat and really good value for the neutral supporter but stressy for us R's though.

No, they used to go right to the barrier. When I was coming out of the park yesterday I was very disappointed in what I saw.

No idea what happened, but on leaving the park tonight, daughter and I were delighted to see the lights now go all the way to the barrier! It looks a lot nicer now.

Fortunately (and unfortunately), the quality of Christmas lights directly correlates to the quality of retailers. The Council contributes the minimum, and the rest is up to retailers. Ealing lights have had a major upgrade thanks to that.

I just spotted that too Apple - on my way home tonight....in fact I think they went beyond the level crossing. Very cheering.Someone in the Council must read either this or their twitter feed!

I think the lights wrapped around the lamp posts on Acton High Street are better than the flower things that we had in the past.On Churchfield Rd Nara's window really is pretty as is Anthony Bell's both warmed the spirit.Pitshanger Lane in  Ealing is very pretty too and some nice little shops there.

Hi Tony,Yes I usually walk straight down Uxbridge Road to and from Loftus Road every home match - sometimes I'm lazy and get the 207/607 though! :-)You should know it's never easy being a QPR fan - we've been doing OK at home but I went to our last two away matches at Newcastle & Swansea which weren't great, but at least we didn't get walloped!

least we are now out of the relegations spots and hopefully onward and upwards. I normally go to the George and Dragon afterwards to read the match programme over a couple of pints of Wheat Bier. That's my reward for walking there and back lol.
