Mortimer & Bennett in Chiswick

I hear it is to close. Does anyone know. A good local source says it's the appalling rents in Turnham Green Terrace.It would be such a shame as it is really great - if extremely expensive.Two suggestions:1) It relocates to Churchfield Road where the rents are not (yet) so high.2) If not, then Park & Bridge take over their 36-month-old Comte at Xmas franchise. You have to order weeks in advance but it is the best cheese ever (apart from Stinking Bishop and Epoisse)

Dear Sara - I read that the founder was retiring and that the shop would continue under new ownership, not that it was closing.  Are you sure?

No I am not sure - which was why I was asking here. But the person who told me seemed quite likely to know.Very good news if your take is correct.

Went in to order the Comte today - the boss is retiring but the deli is staying in business - and the new French chap shows every sign as being as irascible as the owner.

The lovely people (and they are really nice) at Cheddar Deli at 108 Northfield Avenue Ealing are fine cheesemongers.

Bit of a trip though - the only time I go West from here is to Pitshanger bookshop...and that not so often

The new butcher at Ealing Common also sells a great selection of cheese.

Park & Bridge have a little but said they were giving up Epoisse. Nice crackers though.
