congestion acton high street

After the completion of the high st alterations the traffic did seem to move a little faster, however now there seems to be solid traffic almost everyday down to at least the park. Which lights/pedestrian crossing/roundabout do you think is contributing to this problem? Or is it just too many vehicles. I'd be interested to hear the councils point of view as well.

I think it's November/December...plus a burst water main near Hammersmith Hospital apparently. The whole of West London seems snarled up - complicated by a huge crane on Castlenau.So getting through Acton is hard, to Hammersmith hospital appalling and it's almost impossible to cross Hammersmith bridge.It took one neighbour an hour to get from Acton Central to Hammersmith Hospital earlier this week by car.

There was a sudden increase in London road congestion starting around six months ago, which TfL attributes to economic growth (although economic growth didn't increase traffic from 2000-2008...).Either way, it's clear that engineering and other solutions to road congestion that don't explicitly aim to reduce car use are, at best, expensive short term palliatives, not cures.

One problem is that, while the youngish and fittish can easily take to feet, bikes and buses, the older and sicker really need to be able to access some services by car if at all possible.I happily buzz up to East Acton on a bike enduring the hate from all the wedged and fuming motorists but my mum isnt going to do that, nor is my sick neighbour. Difficult.Though of course if more able-bodied people left their cars at home, it would be easier for the old and poorly.

Accident in Hounslow this afternoon on A316 crippled a huge area of SW London, my school run from Hanworth took nearly 2 hours instead of the usual 40 minutes.

I drive through Acton pretty much every day and it seems the colder weather has pushed people to drive instead of walking/cycling/travelling on the bus. Plus, when you do a big shop at the supermarket then it's justifiable than carrying it on the bus, especially a packed one.Compared to September, the amount of cars in Acton is ridiculous. My area of West Acton used to be so quiet and tranquil, now all the traffic passes through from Ealing Common towards Horn Lane / A40 to North Acton and Central London. Chaos is an understatement.

Do you mean the one on Wood Lane? If so, I think it is all open again - nothing reported on any of the traffic information sites!
