Did Annyone See Anything Unusual in the North West as the Sun was gowing down?

I was walking down Acton Lane, and had got to the junction of Acton Lane/Avenue Road and was looking at the Sun setting, there was still enough light to see most things. I was looking and there were telephone wires in my field of vision and at first I couldn't believe what I was seeing, it looked like something in the western distance through the wires I could see what looked like something on fire, falling down slowly, and by the distance I would say about 500 to 1000 yards, and the thing on fire about the size of a car.I took some pictures on the phone but when I looked at them I couldn't see anything on them, even though I zoomed in.Got to keep the loonies on the grass-pink floyd

ISS was later wasnt it - we saw it pass at c 1720 - well after sun down. Impressive though.t

That makes sense except I definitly saw it before 5pm and it did look as if it was falling slowly, Parachute IDK

Indeed Fred, that's the conclusion I came to last night as it makes the most sense, also I think it's quite hard to tell how far something is away, or what size it might be, I definitly think Chinese lantern now.

John, I had an experience spookily like yours in November 2012.  I was walking up Fletcher Road from Acton Lane at about 5.30 pm when I spotted what I thought was a sheet of newspaper on fire in the sky just ahead of me, but when I got closer I saw it was actually a solid, bright orange-coloured oblong thing, moving steadily in a north-west (I think!) direction. I watched it until it was out of sight -  about 30 seconds (unfortunately there no people around to confirm what I had seen, just passing cars). It seemed quite big to me - about the size of an actual sheet of newspaper , but it could have been something big quite high in the sky or something smaller much lower in the sky, hard to judge.  In the sense that I couldn't identify it, that it was flying and that it was definitely an object, it was a UFO!Speaking of which, when I told the story to anyone with the patience to listen, I was advised to look on UFO-type websites, which I did.  To my relief there were quite a few sensible-sounding postings from people who had had sightings  very similar to mine, as in fact yours was John, and I'm sure you're as sane as I am!
