Friary park estate

No one commented yet on my message 're the planned workshops for residents and interested bystanders. I thought I would start a new thread. Are there any people from the newly appointed resident steering committee on this Forum? Would you like to share the e mail from Catalyst? Can you tell us a bit more about the plans?

Hi Angela, I think tenants who were originally considered joining the Steering Group including as myself and my daughter may have put off by the joining up form we received. It was more like a job application and required more commitment than many could probably make, including training, assessing our strengths etc and of course the amount of time we would have to dedicate. It wasn't as easy as just signing up and turning up at meetings as people may have thought when they first expressed interest.

Hello Martin.  Seems your concerns about the Friary Park Steering Group were founded.  I happened to find myself in the midst of one of their meetings this week (it's the 8th meeting they've had) and it seems Catalyst have done a great job of demonising the world outside Friary Park, casting anyone who cares about the redevelopment and the huge concerns it raises as aggressive, opposition and "private home owners".  It was made clear that the people on the Steering group saw the situation as 'them and us" (Catalyst must be laughing!) Concerning, especially as the tenants on the estate need to be well informed to make decisions.  If I were you, I'd get myself on that Steering Group if you can (I'm not allowed, as I'm an outsider of course.)  The next one is on the 13th May I believe, in the evening.  Drop me a line.

Accordingly I believe that there has been a poor uptake on the positions on the steering comittee. i am a resident and have been asked to join however as the name suggests i believe its object is to steer residents in towrds the thinking of catalyst housing ideas and have declined. i bekieve the proper way forward would be to to set up a residents group independent of catalyst housing.

I am still waiting to hear from anyone on the Steering committee who are helping Catalyst redesign the estate. I've spoken to Catalyst who are unable to help, asked them to pass on a message but no result. Anyone know anything?

Can't help with insight on the Steering Committee, Maire, but I will be attending as many of these workshops as I can.  What happened to Catalyst providing us with evidence of crime escalation on the estate and their criteria for knocking these perfectly good homes down?  From what I understand, crime is right down and the homes have had a perfectly good make-over and refurb.  I'd like to know what our Councillors are asking Catalyst on this subject?
