Virgin Active Acton - not going swimmingly!

Those with whose children go to Virgin Active Acton for swimming lessons will know the agony of enrolment.  After years and years of queuing in all weathers from 5.30am just to secure a place for my child in a swimming class there (yes, mad uh), Virgin decided to go 21st century and allow enrolments online.  Quite predictably, the whole system crashed one minute into the enrolment period and had to be abandoned.  In the meantime, I went to the club and asked if I could book my daughter into the swimming class we wanted.  No, not at all, I was told, go home and keep trying online!  To say that the attitude of the Swim Manager was colder than the water in his pool, is an understatement.  Infact, he was downright rude and dismissive, at best.The system was rescheduled for tonight.  It crashed again.Really?  Is it the ONLY pool out there?   He acts as if it is.

With luck, EA will put on more classes as some fill up - it's happened for Forever Fit and yoga-y things I think.I'd like to see more classes aimed at the older member who may not want to roll on the floor.

Trouble is too many people who aren't on the list are getting in to some classes. The little pool has become ridiculously crowded for Women's Aqua on Thursday mornings because no one who comes is turned away. There were about 30 last week, meaning that there isn't enough room to do the more expansive exercises.

Another great option for Children who like swimming is to join Ealing swimming club. They can swim 3 times a week for longer lessons, they have monthly galas for all swimmers, even novices, which makes swimming more exciting.They operate out of Everyone Active.Information on Their website, www.swimesc.co.uk We went from the nightmare of enrolling in Virgin active to ESC when my son was 5, now he is swimming in Regional meets.

I never having a problem booking my classes -- 4 or 5 a week -- so long as I do it first thing a week ahead.

No its now fine - well, I don't know about swimming but the exercise ones are OK. So you book a week ahead, its either full or not, you are on a waiting list or not and then you turn up anyhow and never (so far) get turned away because, as it's free for members, there are always at least half a dozen no-shows.

It may be better for swimming lessons, I don't know, but not much else I'm afraid. Is the booking system still as bad for classes?

Hmm...makes the town Hall gym and pool look positively efficient (and its a lot cheaper)
