Man on a bike says Waitrose are finalising deal

Waiting for the level crossing to open at ACton Central, I started chatting to a bloke on a bike. He told me he worked for a hedge fund consortium who were putting the finishing touches to the financing for the Oaks. The Waitrose sigh up was complete. Not exactly admissible in Court,but I thought you might like to know.

I am with you Richard, I like the quirky messiness of acton and the variety. I hope it keeps it's soul as it changes.

I really hope not. I quite like Acton being the West London awkward-squad.Part leafy-suburbia, part Detroit on Thames (well, ... maybe  ....!) Its so much more interesting

It's a ridiculous figure - because it doesn't sort out push from pull. Waitrose is just as likely to be attracted to areas of rising house prices because it indicates rising wealth - as to increase them.But going back to the original conversation - teddy bears, furniture, perfume, church organs, biscuits ... in the 1920s Acton was referred to as Motor Town.

Never forget that the 'Trose started out in our fair town. Also what's that ridiculous figure attached to house price inflation when Waitrose moves into town? 15% or something mental like that..

Blimey - talk about social change.There was a time when Acton was famous for making bayonets, car parts, amplifiers and electricals.Random cyclists working for hedge fund consortiums were a bit thin on the ground.

Hopefully the bump a Waitrose will give to house prices in the vicinity will not encourage developers to cash in by adding more storeys to their developments. Just a bit of wishful thinking.
