How can we avoid the impression that our political representatives - our dear local councillors - have interests which, for some reason, do not accord with ours, their residents'.It must be perfectly clear by now (not that it needed much imagination in the first place) that building more flats and yet another hotel (how many do we need?), and taking vital green space in doing so, must be diametrically opposed to ours. So how do our councillors justify their do-nothing stance? Sheela refers to the moral and active support of councillors and others over the bus depot proposals. Where is it now? Why are they not opposing these plans vigorously and unequivocally?And, as we know, it gets worse. The outrageous 30+ storey blocks proposed for the Carphone Warehouse and Perfume Factory sites (one third of the height of the Shard each), have not, to my knowledge, been opposed, certainly not effectively. Where do residents turn to protect themselves against such basic abuses, if not to their councillors? Yet they continue supinely to ignore our sentiments. Have the parliamentary candidates offered any credible support in these matters either? Prepare to be ignored once again!”
