I hope our new Curzon is better than the "Bloomsbury" one replacing the Renoir

We went to the Curzon Bloomsbury - used to be my beloved Renoir. And it was not a happy experience (even putting the movie itself to one side.)They have converted it into a warren of tiny screening rooms - ours had 30 seats.It's extortionate - £15 or £12.50 concessionAnd there is NO service for that: crowded, understaffed and you have to wait for people to be served a latte, a flat white, a gin AND popcorn before you can even pick up a ticket.Angry customers and oppressed and surly staff made it rather unpleasant at those prices.I hope they do better if they move into the Old Library.I'm not sure Acton is ready for this Curzon experience.I'd thought better of them.

I have enquired. Several times. The answer is alwayS the same: the legalities with Ealing Council have not been concluded. The council is unforthcoming (as ever).Just not a priority I imagine.

Sadly it was the previous MP who supported the Arts Centre Proposal along with Jon Ball. Rupa confined her remarks to telling us to vote Labour. However one of the reasons given for favouring the Curzon proposal was that they would move quickly. No sign of that. We might inquire how things are going.

Is there really no going back on this Curzon Proposal?  One of the most uplifting projects in recent years in Acton was the Acton Arts Centre Proposal, which seems to have been rather stabbed in the back by Curzon.  We are a strong community in Acton, we have a new MP in our corner - is there no chance of a review on this development?  Is the people's voice really worth nothing?

We went there recently.  "Warren" is a good word - with the dim lighting and grey walls, i felt as if I were trapped in a David Lynch film, and trying to get out we kept going round in circles.  The prices, too....!  We paid £18 a seat, and while booking online I was so shocked I actually phoned them to check that I hadn't clicked on the wrong button.  I can't see them selling many of these in Acton.Mind you..it doesn't look like they're in a hurry to start, does it?

The Curzon Richmond is £8.50 or £7.50 for members. Hopefully Acton will be same or cheaper.

It sounds a bit like the one in Victoria. Tiny auditorium with seats that look very comfortable but don't feel it after an hour or so. To be fair the picture and sound are excellent, the staff were helpful and the DJ in the foyer played some excellent chilled jazz.Assuming you go to the cinema to drink latte and and listen to music, it's a fine venue. Let's hope Acton gets one soon.

I'm pretty sure it was a K & C when I was there a few weeks ago... I find their cakes a bit too sweet and the savouries too tiny for the price!

I like that Odeon too!My favourites though are the Lexi in Kensal rise and JW3 at Finchley Road and Frognal: ace repertoire and not as extortionate. I used to love the Renoir when I worked around there.Is KLonditorei and Cook still at the Curzon Soho? I'm nearly sure Curzon lady said they weren't any more  when I was researching the Acton one. I LOVE the K&C carrot cake and the red velvet cake and would pay way over the odds for them.

I go to the Curzon Soho sometimes.  There used to be a nice cafe there, now an overpriced Konditor and Cook.  The box office (now you get your tickets at the cafe or bars) was always staffed by affectless hipster film-student types... Once I went to an early afternoon screening and they forgot to start the film... To be honest I prefer the Odeon in Covent Garden, which often shows offbeat or foreign films, and has nice friendly young people behind the counter (though I miss the nice Filipina ladies who used to be there).  Curzon just resting on their laurels a bit, I think.
