She made a big thing of not only being brought up in Ealing (Montpelier School and Notting Hill & Ealing I think) but having lived here for ages and having kids at local schools.

So glad Rupa won, I think she will be good for the people of Acton, only asked Angie Bray for help once when my area was saturated with over development from Berkley Homes and she told me there was nothing she could do but 2 weeks later sent me an email to vote for her dog in the Westminster dog show, that really impressed me , not !

She is in a 'win win' position. Every chance to establish herself as a fine constituency MP without the ordure of the policies of the party in government to worry about.Steve Pound has proven this can be done in Ealing North, Sharma in Ealing Southall with his ascloseasthat links to Ealing Council is not the model to follow; over to you Rupa.

Well there is no use crying over spilt milk as my granny used to say! The deed is done and good luck to the winner.Now is the time to tey and forget loyalties and voting preferences, the people have spoken.Let's hope that Rupa will make as much effort on behalf of the Ealing and Acton residents as Angie did.

What part of solidarity is helped by your statements here?The fight is over, Rupa won, and now we have to work with her. Please see that infighting will not help us, as residents, get the best outcome. And before you ask, I did not vote for Rupa (see this forum)

Integrity, Honesty and Knowledge are three very desirable qualities in an MP.Rupa:- repeatedly published campaign pledges on the NHS that were either wilfully intended to mislead or hopefully more likely just completely ignorant of the facts - Made a big deal about wanting to arrest the "war criminal" Tony Blair only to then accept £1000 cheque from him for her campaign- Doesn't seem to really understand the difference between facts and interpretation- Is amazing silent in the curious housing arrangements of the Labour leader of Ealing Council and the increasingly dire service provision which again means our streets are amongst the dirtiest in LondonAlong with Hounslow we seem to have all the right ingredients for a rotten borough in place and I fear that local residents will be worse off for it - we've gone from a generally well respected local MP who has consistently worked hard for the local electorate to a Miliband stooge who seems more than happy to mislead and obfuscate and prior to becoming an MP seems to have spent her time spending public funding on research projects that don't appear to have any real value other than interest.

And the winner is...the Conservatives. Pity Ealing & Acton didn't get the memo. Just 274 votes short.Will be interesting to see whether our new MP is ready to stand up to her Council chums on issues that matter to her constituents. From what I have seen of her I somehow doubt it. But I live in hope.

Agree re solidarity Jules.  I am so glad the election is over....let's all pull together, no matter what political view, and work for our environment and make sure our Council are listening to the people and the area needs.

Tory results in the big cities, including London, speak volumes. They need to find some more interesting and modern candidates for these seats to reconnect with voters. Pursuing some policies which don't increase inequality still further would help too...Rupa May do well for us. Let's give her a chanceBut we still must keep up the pressure on the council - and we must stand together to do this. Fighting during the election amongst ourselves is fine, but solidarity is needed now

Yes, Well Done Rupa. The next 5 years won't be easy for her. She's going to find herself in parliament watching the people opposite slowly dismantling the Health Service and the welfare state.  I hope everyone reading this has good private health insurance and access to a good helicopter service should they need an A&E. The NHS to the Conservatives means No Health Service.I would also recommend all those who supported the Conservatives to take a nice break in the sun.  You might like to try Mr Cameron's 'liberated' Libya.  He looked so happy standing on those steps in Benghazi.  Strange he hasn't been back there since. Perhaps one of the Nom-doms or tax-avoiders who bankroll his party could give him a ticket.

Angie was really helpful sorting out the daft CPZ situation here and several traumatic hospital problems. She always replied to my letters even when she was away on holiday. Rupa is yet to be tested. Other than that it's a brave new world.

I'm surprised.  She did not impress me much at the hustings, she seemed a bit flustered and flaky.  I guess overall the great British public have spoken.

I'm so pleased you're happy, Chris.  I woke up feeling really sick, then sad because Rupa won't fight her own (Labour Council) for the likes of us minions.  I may be wrong and she may not have known my name until today, but I will campaign this woman heavily to lean on her mates at the Town Hall.  I hope you don't regret your vote.  Watch this space and I sincerely hope you're wrong.  I hadn't decided who to vote for until this week and after asking Angie about Friary Park, I received a written pledge from Angie to fight alongside us on that matter.  I expect Rupa to do the same and if not, I will be publicly holding her to account.
