Acton Central Ward Forum 27th May at 7pm

There is a Ward Forum on Wednesday 27th May from 7pm to 9pm at St Mary’s Church Hall, The Mount, Acton W3 9NW.  The Friary Green Residents' Assoc has asked for the Friary Park issue be put on the agenda and we also suggest as many of us as possible attend this meeting, even if you can only stay a short while.  We’re organising our presence in the form of a neighbourly demonstration in front of St Mary’s Church Hall from 6.30pm onwards so do join us. Great turn-off last night, especially for the Friary Park issue. Well done to Chris Petrie, Chair of FGRA on getting the issue on the agenda. It was a productive meeting in as far as it showed the scale of objections to the proposals and there were some excellent points made.  However, there were many factors that were questionable:We asked for confirmation that Acton Central is suburban. Ealing Planners gave our Councillors info from the London Plan and the Local DPD policy.  They claim "all of Acton is urban".  We don't believe that is correct.  We cannot find such policy statement.A Councillor rolling her eyes in "headmistress style" at residents' questions.  Good on the woman who voiced her concerns about this.Another Councillor from the audience shouting out accusations of bullying when residents tried to get the Friary Park item on the agenda.  They did so in a polite, respectful manner.  No bullying there.  I got the distinct impression of non-commital when residents tried to get the Councillors to affirm their support and commitment to our objections.  One Councillor did say he had voiced his concerns to Catalyst about their proposals, which I believe.  However, we need all Councillors to stand shoulder to shoulder with us, as our representatives.  We need public, vocal affirmation from them.  Nothing less. The planning dept, it seems, are paving the way to change the landscape of Acton.  This must come from above (not God, but someone who is clearly playing God with our lives).

Some of us might want to, but Acton Central is coming out in force to say "We don't want to get high - no skyscrapers, no towers!"  If you don't want to get high, join us in a neighbourly demonstration at 6.30pm this Wednesday, 27th May, outside St Mary's Church, The Mount W3 (near Morrison's).  Various residents' associations are joining us too - it's not just Friary Park we're concerned about - it's Acton per se.  Don't let the monster towers creep across the A40 from the mess at North Acton.  Bring your children, your dogs, your banners, your neighbour.  It will be fun as well.  Afterwards, at 7pm, it's the Acton Central Ward Forum, so if you can stay for that, where the Friary Green Residents' Association has asked for the Friary Park proposal to be put on the agenda, great.  See you there.I thank you.

Just to say I 've had a card dropped through my door advertise the Ward Forum next Thursday. No mention of Friary Park Proposals as requested. I guess that the Council think that by ignoring local anxiety, it will just go away. Please come at six thirty and bring your friends. A peaceful respectful insistence on being heard is our aim.

It is probably worth saying that our local Councillors may  try to resist a forum on Friary Park proposals,and the Premier Inn proposals both of which have long term consequences for all W3 residents north of the Uxbridge Road. It is easier for the Council if public debate is kept to a minimum.So do come along on Thursday even for a little while If you have elderly neighbours, perhaps offer them a lift. Come especially if you you like the proposals,are maybe thinking you will get a new house or might buy one of the iconic apartments planned. All voices should be heard.See you there.
