Lost letters

Is anyone else having problems with the post service?I have had 4 items (that I know about) go missing since the beginning of April. I have also had 3 'signed for' items just put through my letterbox (one with the labels removed) and a package returned to the sender as 'Gone away, not at this address'. Last week, the postman came just as I was going out, and he handed me what was supposedly my post, but it was all for the first house in the next road. If I hadn't been there, all my road and the next one would have had the wrong post! Just wondering if I am the unlucky one, or are others having similar problems?

On this occasion it was the 'Delivery Officer' (Royal Mail speak for postie!) getting things wrong - he had taken the bundles of post from the trolley and put them in his bag, but had obviously not checked which one he was then delivering.If he was supposed to look at numbers, that wasn't happening either - my door number was not the same as the one on the letters he handed me!I know there are great posties out there, and they deliver come rain or shine, but there is something very wrong with the system when 4 items of mail go missing in 6 weeks, and signed for post is not signed for. Royal Mail assure me my post will be delivered correctly in future and that the missing items have never been delivered to Acton delivery office, so they have gone missing somewhere on route....

It's not necessarily your postie who gets things wrong - as such. Had this a couple of years ago that I kept getting mail for the same house no just round the corner, and somebody at the sorting office was arranging things incorrectly for the postie. While they did their round, the posties were just supposed to look at numbers rather than anything else, I was told then...Having said this, we have a delightful and very conscientious Polish postie who has been doing the round here for quite some time. Whenever he is on duty, things are just perfect! There are people out there who show common sense rather than just follow stupid instructions...

Thanks for that, I will do it today, though unless you keep a log of missed deliveries and wrongly delivered post it's hard for them to actually track down who is being lazy and careless. The best postman we ever had drives a Royal Mail van now and only delivers special post.

Terrie,I would complain to the Delivery manager at the sorting office, and maybe log a complaint with Royal Mail via their website.My complaints are currently undergoing investigation.

Ours has been OK - but then yesterday I got two things for next door and one for the next house... I didn't even know there was a magazine called Premier Christianity (boy, did they get the wrong address!)Very HIGNFY.

Ring the sorting office- it was only when picking up a parcel and chatting to a postie that my husband was told that we were on an overtime route. Not a new development or anything, house/street been around forever and suddenly we're an overtime route (Acton Hill area) so our deliveries are erratic in the extreme.

Somethings up. Our post used to be delivered at 12ish. Since last week its being delivered at 6pm.

Royal Mail is the problem. Any idea who to complain to? I got Summerlands post last week.

Terrie - I DO live on Highlands Avenue! We nearly got Summerlands Avenue post last week. The service is very erratic - some days it arrives before 10, another day it won't arrive until 4. I have made a complaint before, so perhaps the postie is taking his revenge on me!Chris - this is all Royal Mail post - nothing to do with Whistl. The problems started before Whistl stopped their deliveries.

You are lucky to get any post at all! On my road Highlands Ave the service is awful days go by with no post at all. A lot goes next door to a block of flats and thankfully I get it back eventually. Other bits and pieces that I know have been sent are never received.
