Acton Town Lift Maintenance 29 June to early August - loss of westbound step free access

London Underground are maintaining one lift at a time at Acton Town station starting with the lift that serves the westbound District & Piccadilly lines. The eastbound lift will be worked on in early 2016. This means there will be no step-free access to/from the westbound District & Piccadilly lines from the start of traffic Monday 29 June until early August. Access to the westbound platforms will be via the stairs only.Westbound customers, requiring step free access to/from the Acton Town area, will need to use the step-free facilities at Hammersmith or Hounslow East.Alternatively they can use bus routes 266 and/or E3. Publicity will go up at the station nearer the time and I will bump this to remind people.

Work has finished and both lifts are now in service so full lift access to all platforms has been restored.

The work on the westbound lift is finished. Work on the eastbound lift starts on Monday 29 February until mid April.

The work that started in late June and was soon stopped, is back on again. From Monday 18 January there will be no westbound step-free access at Acton Town station until late February due to lift maintenance. Once this is completed TfL will start maintenance work on the eastbound lift from late February until mid April.

Please note that the work on the westbound lift will stop today due to lack of available resource. It will be back in full service from tomorrow. New dates will be announced at some point and I will keep you updated when I get any further information.

Lifts must be fully replaced every 10 to 20 years, depending on the type.Due to the nature of the work, replacement and refurbishment can take a number of months to complete.Peter thanks for answering the second one. Another option is the 266 bus from Acton High Road to Hammersmith station for step free access there.

I think the idea is that you travel to Hammersmith or Houslow East, change platforms using the lifts, and return to Acton Town in the opposite direction so you can use the lift that is working while the other one is out of service.

Why is it taking over a month to maintain one lift?My mobility is greatly reduced and I have difficulty in both walking and using steps. The statement that "customers, requiring step free access to/from the Acton Town area, will need to use the step-free facilities at Hammersmith or Hounslow East." I find laughable. What happens after Hammersmith or Hounslow East?
