Another bloc vote by Labour Councillors

Yet again Acton is blighted by another obtrusive, unwanted block of flats, squeezed into too small a site not fit for purpose, nor designed as such.  48 Horn Lane, where the Mermaid Carwash.  Bloc voting again by the usual suspects.  They neither care or wish to.  The dumping ground for Ealing Council.  Wake-up all.

I can see where I misunderstood what you meant - it's the "or generally for not living in".  I took that to mean per se, not just foreign investors.  Cheers.

Do - I said we don't need housing for foreign investors - or generally for not living in. But we need affordable and council and Sheltered.And we need it proportionate and considered.

Hi Sara.  I thought I read on the Ealing forum you saying we didn't need anymore housing.  Will double read that.I don't we do need to keep building housing.....if we build, more people will come.  It is not the answer.  The answer is to invest in our land elsewhere, other places, with business, longterm, and build more houses people actually want to live in not towers or flats (children need open spaces), and cram London to the hilt.  It will not solve the problem longterm at all.  There are plenty of homes laying empty.  Tax them heavily.  Address the standard of rented accommodation.  We are obsessed as a nation with owning our own homes - other countries aren't.  Make rents lower all round.  Stop selling flats as investments.Anyway, back to the Mermaid plot.  I agree with you - it is not appropriate, is disproportionate in scale and was nodded through.

Can we really say Acton doesn't need more housing with the prices and demand the way they are?And anyhow that would be rather insular. London and the South East definitely needs more. Particularly more to actually live in and surely Horn Lane can't be that desirtable for foreign investors - even with Crossrail looming.Plus replacing a car wash is probably a better use of the land.BUT it needs to be of a proportionate scale AND it needs to have been considered properly by our elected representatives on the planning committee and not just nodded through by a Labour bloc vote which brings the whole process into disrepute.

Jan, I think Julian Smith is on the case with that.  I think it's going well.  I will join in when I can, after I emerge from the campaign to get the Council and Catalyst to change their minds about the current proposals for Friary Park and offer a less impactful plan.  Maire, someone ought to tell the Council that Acton doesn't need any more housing!  Everyone is on the bandwagon with this.  Doesn't make sense.

I do so agree with you. We have a few councillors that actually care about Acton and they are conspicuous and vocal in their objections.and their willingness to discuss planning issues. We need a drastic change. I thought some people on the forum had decided to have a chat with a relative of Sarah Nathan's re starting to bring about this change. Does anyone have any info?

In fact Acton doesn't need any more housing. The South Acton estate will provide all the additional housing Ealing Council promised the Mayor. And quite a bit more on top.
