Sounds of Acton

The noise from this today is totally unacceptable.  My flat, which is opposite the park, is shaking,can't open any windows, listen to radio or TV.  Six hours of this, with some frantic  bellowing about is too much.  Noise patrol couldn't care less.  If this is 'a vibrant culture' I'm glad I'm uncultured.

Nina, I totally agree with you.  I spent two hours there and was very pleased to get away. It wasn't the volume that was the problem for me (although it was extremely loud), like you I found the vibrating heavy bass unbearable.

Sarah - good to know that your mother enjoyed it - obviously her flats were not placed in the direct line of noise from the massive speakers.  I'm sure she wouldn't have appreciated 7 hours of her flat vibrating from the heavy bass. It affected residents in all of the flats here, not just me whingeing.

My mum - also with a flat overlooking,indeed virtually in the park - said it all ended quite early - around 9pm and wasn't too bad. She really enjoyed having the procession and carnival on her doorstep and said it was very jolly, very well-attended and might be annoyingly noisy if frequent but only happens once a year.Seemed fair enough.

You can normally walk into the fair and just pay for the rides - you don't normall pay to  get into where the fair is.However I guess for the carnival the fee goes somewhere to pay towards the toilets and security.Good news that noise 'police' could come out. Hopefully next year the carnival organizers will get a better sound system/ techniIcal support etc.

Another neighbour complained and was visited by the team from the noise nuisance people.  They agreed that the noise was excessive and that our flats were being affected by the vibration coming from the bass.  They visited the park, and the sound was turned down a little, but we were still affected by the vibration and the over heavy bass.  I suspect the problem is that the sound reverberates against our row of flats - all that is probably needed is not to have so much bass, and to site the speaker slightly differently.  As far as your question about charging is concerned, I think the fair always charges an entrance fee - think this is normal.

I went with the kids today-didn't stay it really was so loud.The bass was too high.  I can believe your house was shaking.Also.. And this makes me sound really old(!!) the music I heard wasn't really kid friendly for 3pm.I think it should/ can still happen.. Just a better sound system and or tech.Also on a side note.. Can you charge to go into land that is paid for by our council tax?? Seems a bit unfair to fence off and charge for? Surely more involvement in event by residents if entry  is FOC.Also what's the incentive to pay to get into the park to pay again for fairground rides etc?? #justsaying
