Friary Park - why demolish it??

I visited the estate last week to publicise the public meeting being held tonight. What a nice estate it is! It was obviously well thought out, low rise, with plenty of green space as well as car parking, plus a community centre and even a basket ball court. Catalyst don't seem to have done costings for refurbishment of the current estate. Instead they would rather demolish it and build new - and a lot more. I understand the pressure on the council for building new homes, but to knock down a perfectly nice estate just because it happens to be next to a Cross rail station seems wrong to me.

That of course depends on where any money is actually going to end up.

Why destroy the community for money. Removal of funding for local charities, wheelie bins, fortnightly waste collections, planning notices on posts, filthy dirty streets, etc. We deserve much better than this.

Chris, my understanding is that Ealing Council have already achieved their targets for housing and new house build.  Well done Ealing Council!  So, they don't actually need to build these high-rise, high density monsters.  Therefore, there can only be one or two other purposes to this redevelopment.  Money or empire.  Maybe they are the same thing.  The Cahill dynasty.

Acton Main Line is not the only station to be served by Crossrail, are there plans for multiple tower blocks close to Ealing Broadway and Southall stations? Perhaps Hayes and West Drayton as well? If the attraction is not so much Crossrail, more HS2, how about Harlesden town centre? Perhaps the reason is the number of councillors who do not live in or care about Acton.
