Business owners:  What's a fair price for flyering?

I'm about to open a shop in Churchfield road and just wondering if there are any other traders who have paid people to flyer?  If so what have you paid them and for how long etc.?All opinions welcome but please stick to what you would pay and not what you would like to get paid! :)

We've paid £350 for delivery of 4000 leaflets. The jury is out on how effective it has been. The company didn't deliver to people with junk mail stickers on the doors. They also didn't deliver to blocks of flats without external post boxes. My guess is that people whose letter boxes are at the bottom of their doors didn't get the leaflet either. Judge for yourself.

Thanks for all the feedback.  Much appreciated.  Yes Andy my ads on this site start running on opening day (tues).  It's interesting you already know who I am so something is working! I totally get the flyer thing, personally I don't see them as very effective unless handed to someone with a smile and a word but I am contracted by my franchise agreement to do certain marketing.  My main use of flyering will be to hit the post office as people come out as that's my competition.

Keith, I see you placed an ad in the Gazette. I'm a great advocate for the paper which needs the support of local businesses to survive so well done for that.Presume you will also advertise on ActonW3.com which has a larger readership in the area but please don't use flyers - it will annoy more people than it will bring to your doorstep.

Thing is it's just takes a few people to view the flyer to make it worthwhile.  It does work sometimes.  Worth stopping someone you see dropping the flyers, but normally £20-£40 for 1000.Price depends on how many flyers are dropped at the same time. If exclusive, which has more impact you pay more.  flats are much easier for obvious reasons.

Please don't use flyers. We get a ridiculous amount of them through our letterbox and they all go straight in the recycling box.
