Award for new Imperial build at N Acton?

The new Imperial student halls of residence at North Acton have been shortlisted for an award!...an award for the ugliest new building, but an award nonetheless.http://www.bdonline.co.uk/buildings/carbuncle-cup/carbuncle-cup-woodward-hall-north-acton-london/5076680.articleAnd nominated, it seems, by the elusive Mr Notley.Still, he's right, it is a pig ugly building. Why the obsession with horrible colour cladding? And why has yet another colour of bricks been introduced to the area?And when will all this promised S106 money actually make a square by the tube station?? So many questions...so few answers.

I don't suppose it is much consolation but the gym in the Imperial building is open to the public. If you live near there it is worth a look.

It is amazing you'd build something so BIG and make it so ugly!And is there a rule in North Acton that no two buildings must have the same colour bricks? We now have yellow, red, white, and very dark grey.The odd cladding choices are just the nasty icing on the cake.

Aye, we missed out on a moving acceptance speech at the awards ceremony: "I'd like to thank everyone in the architectural practice but particularly my guide dog, who chose the external finishes. And a special thanks to Ealing planning officers, who selflessly poked their own eyes out with red hot pokers before reading and supporting our application."
