Oaks shopping centre

When is work going to commence and finish?Is Waitrose still due to open?Anyone know the current situation?

Poundland was heaving this morning.  Incredibly long queue as well. I do find it very strange that it has even opened when the entire centre is about tobe demolished.

The paper man in the Centre also has to be out next month. He reckons that the Landlord is also trying to get Poundland and Boots out as well to do up the whole complex. Not sure where that leaves KFC as well.

@Jean F Fernandez lol she needs Specsavers urgently!We have 3 tiny independently run supermarkets in West Acton, all NEXT to eachother. M&S and Asda is a short walk away but our lovely neighbourhood prefers local shopping.Acton High Street seems like a world away from our area. It's a strange feeling driving into town.

Well folks for those who would prefer a more upmarket store rather than Poundland, one can always use a Waitrose of a John Lewis bag to carry your purchases home.A lady in the queue at an Aldi supermarket was overheard having a conversation on her mobile phone which ended with her saying, 'Won't be long, I am just in the queue at Waitrose!'

Yes it's definitely a step up from 99p!! It's just very bizarre that they have kept it half open? Would it not be better to just Completely shut the centre to do the work?

Well the 99p store has closed. A poundland(better IMO)will be opening on 12th October.  How on earth can The Oaks be redeveloped with a store still open? Seems very very strange.

It will be very easy for Waitrose, in the fullness of time, to eventually decide that a shop in this location isn't viable after all, after further consideration.We shall see of course.

Oh dear, we really need decent shops NOW in Acton, it does seem rather a lengthy wait!I would still prefer an Aldi or Lidl, or even Iceland.

I contacted Waitrose in May to get an update. Here's the response I got:Thanks for getting in touch and for your interest in our New Waitrose branches Miss Brennan.Currently we have plans to open The Oaks, Acton in 2017 but we are not able to provide a date at present. As soon as any information is available, we’ll release it on our website - www.waitrose.com and/or via the local press.

A ruse  indeed.  Typical Labour trick.  I urge everyone to join the new residents association advertised elsewhere on this site in order to stop such ill thoughout planning ruses.Beware.    The proposed new school in Acton Park will be the next one.  How tall is this building going to be?Where next I wonder?

The sole purpose of the development was always the tower block. Waitrose was a ruse, just as Mark's was the last time round. Good luck with that GP's appointment Mr May and god help you if you need an A&E!

I think we will have a lengthy wait for Waitrose, Acton High street is a poor man's Ealing at present, all the lavish attention appears to be concentrated on Ealing Broadway.Why would anyone want to spend time in The Oaks right now? It's quite depressing!

Interesting letter in the Ealing and Acton Gazette at the weekend from the Leader of Ealing Council about regeneration. He states that we will be getting a new Waitrose and housing in the Old Town Hall plus the need Cinema in the Old Library!!!

I would love to see a Waitrose open in Acton. Sick of having to go to Westfield to get certain items. It also increases the value of your property. Keeping all fingers and toes crossed!

With the amount of stores Lidl and Aldi are proposing to open I'd be amazed if Acton wasn't on their radar.I agree with Tony - our Morrisons is as safe as houses. I think the reason it hasn't had a much needed makeover is because they couldn't afford the temporary down-sizing as they complete the works.  The store makes too much money for them.

I would be more excited by an Aldi coming to Acton than a Waitrose.  With Morrissons current woes we should perhaps watch that space too

Re "Waitrose", does anyone have any FIRM proof that they are definitely going ahead?I still maintain that you may have all been lied to and conned, but that seems par for the course with planning in Ealing/Acton from what I've heard/seen.

Yes we did have a Netto Brian, but the shop was not well maintained really. Very messy!

We could do with a store like Lidl or Aldi in Acton and give some competition to Morrisons!I miss the Iceland shop in The Oaks.

I agree with Brian. there is not enough demographic in Acton. I for one pop into Waitress for the odd purchase but would never dream of doing a weekly shop. There are 2 Waitroses relatively close by to make it viable.

I tried to use it as a cut-through from high street last week ... but that is not possible any more as it is closed off inside from soon after 99p shop. Dismantling is well under way on right hand side after the corner.

I don't believe that Waitrose will ever open there, Acton isn't exactly their demographic. Well, except maybe for a minuscule catchment in "Poets Corner", but that won't be enough revenue to justify a new branch. It was good spin to win the planning permission.

Wish they would hurry up, it's dismal going in there at present!Also the loss of parking spaces is not helping, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that takings are down in some local stores.
