Traffic in Acton this past few days has been an absolute nightmare. Horn Lane and the back streets was bumper to bumper.Any idea why??

That last post reminds me how much I miss Steptoe and Son.

I do not remember a time without cars, but I do remember the rush to pick up the free fertiliser after the horsedrawn deliveries

It's all unpredictable. Some days the traffic flows. Then one minor accident or breakdown and it's close to gridlock. Rainy days are worse than fine days, but some days there are tailbacks for no discernible reason.Would the world be a better place if the internal combustion engine had never been invented?

When I was very young I often travelled between Acton and Putney Bridge via the original Hammersmith Broadway. It was so bad that the police used to walk away leaving the bus inspectors to sort the mess and get the busses moving, backing up any vehicles where neccessary and squeezing them through with nothing to spare.
Thank goodness you have moved to lovely, spacious countryside, Doris. Is it Wales? At least it's a long way west...

I used to live in Earls Court and it was such a shock to visit the area yesterday, total gridlock. People were getting off the bus and walking because nothing was moving! The fumes and the pollution level must have been very high. I know Acton is bad but my word I would not like to live in Earls Court again!

Too many people driving too many cars. Its going to get worse as more people come to live in west London.Who said London was not overcrowded?

Much less tailback past my house this morning.

Probably because the temporary lights in the High Street have gone.

Traffic not too bad today.

Any improvement today? - will need to drive in that area later on.

That was a one-off, though, Andy. It's a few yards of roadworks causing all the problems, exacerbated by convoys of double deckers.

There are also problems with the lights at the junction with the A406 and the Uxbridge Road apparently.

Roadworks in the High Street with temporary lights.
