Why you should help FRIARS GARDENS, W3 - a neglected POS
Dear neighbours and friends,A group of residents - concerned at the minimal maintenance of our local green and it's lack of access due to a chainlink fence - have put through a proposal of improvements under Ealing Council's Transform Your Space 2 scheme, which is now live on Spacehive.com.Please check outhttps://www.spacehive.com/TYS2-garden-4-everyonefor full details.For FRIARS GARDENS, W3, we are proposing a replacement bow-top 1.2 metres high fence in powder-coated green, four entrance gates (so you can get in the park), a children's safe, fenced off play area with soft tarmac, a small flower garden also hedged off (so dogs can play in the main area) benches to sit and proper paths to walk through, so you don't get mud on your feet.This is not - I must stress - an attempt to chase out dogs and dog owners who currently enjoy the garden, but an attempt to open the green to all the community and make it more appealing. It is mostly used by a single group of users mainly because other groups are unprovided for and there is only one entrance (the unwieldy gate of which recently injured a neighbour's hand whilst trying to open it). Friars Gardens is designated a Public Open Space (from 2004 Ealing Council Unitary Development Plan) and as such should provide access to ALL sectors of the community. This proposal is our bid to win a share of a regeneration fund (which is already ear-marked for green spaces in Ealing anyway). But very important for such community schemes is that there should be a portion raised by crowd fund-raising and feedback written on the website by locals. Why? Though the council have statutory responsibility for management, the soil owner is a property developer who would love to build here. We must - as a community - send a clear message to developers that locals will not stand for losing their precious urban green space.
