Isn't anyone concerned about the fad for basements under Victorian terraces? I've lived in Acton a long time and am aware of problems,with subsidence in many of our streets. Our Victorian houses are built on clay with shallow foundations. Sticking a modern basement under one house will disturb the whole terrace. Then there is the problem with the high water table. There is a lot of water flowing downhill underground in Acton. Many houses with cellars were built to allow periodic flooding. If you stick a sealed basement under one house the water has,to go somewhere else.I urge everyone to take planning applications for basements seriously.
