Rocket suddenly very good value on Mondays!

We strolled in this evening and were presented with three complimentary starters/bar snacks: delicious whitebait and sweet potato fries (yum) and irrelevant calamari (not my thing)Anyhow, this is apparently a new policy for Monday nights which is traditionally rather quiet in pubs. And very welcome too.There's a schedule of other activities there during the week too which looked interesting including burger nights on Tuesdays and cheap wine offers - maybe Wednesdays.And bar snacks are to be regularly available.

I think you're right Sara, it was sold a couple of years ago. I have to say that we've eaten at the Rocket a couple of times recently (having avoided it for a while before) and I was delighted with the service and the food

I don't visit The Rocket any more. The company that owns it is registered in the BVI to avoid paying taxes. We had brunch at the Rocket recently - first time for years and the eggs benedict were fine: perfectly poached eggs, ok muffins, good hollodaise (though not enough - but then I never think there's enough. Only thing not great was the spinach which was chopped and I think frozen not fresh. Coffee good too.My favourite brunch though is at Mezzoroma in Willesden Green - Mediterranean breakfast with hollodaise on the side - heaven But a bit of a schlep.

I agree. I've just been for brunch with a friend - delicious food and huge cup of coffee.  Highly recommended.

Re ChurchfieldsI think it is a huge improvement.  It does get very busy so occasionally we have had to wait to give our order but the staff are fantastic.  Food delicious and they still have the best coffee imo. And the staff that served us are great with kids. Can't fault the place at all.

The Red Lion & Pineapple and all Weatherspoons pubs have a beer festival on and are selling beer at £1.99 a pint this week. It ends tomorrow, Sunday 2nd November.

The Red Lion has the best value charging £2.80 a pint. The Goldsmiths second and providing a cosy atmosphere for all the family with a nice big beer garden.

Hi Tom - sorry to hear about your bad experience at Churchfields. We are always happy to hear feedback good or bad.  We took over Churchfields earlier this year and had staffing problems but are now fully staffed up with a new chef who we are told makes the best Eggs Benedict around.  Not only that he also does a great range of daily 'specials' including fresh Fish  & Chips on a Friday.  We hope you will come back and visit us soon.

Shame that the week-end breakfast at the Rocket is so disgusting!!  I went there when I first moved to Acton in 2013 and it was awful - Eggs Benedict with horrible (non) muffins, very hard poached eggs and congealing and cold hollondaise!  Went back recently as assumed things would have got better but no - terrible still!  Whilst on subject of breakfasts, the service at Chruchfields has been terrible both times I have been there - I walked out last time after being ignored for 15 minutes!  Is it just me I wonder?!

I agree the Leamington was poor.Wonder how long it will be before the Jewsons site is developed for housing? A pub on the front of that would be good (replacing the run of small commercial units now painted garishly in their corporate colours).These are matters which AML Neighbourhood Forum would hope to address. Fingers crossed that we get designated by Ealing Council.

Sadly, there is no decent pub near Acton Mainline station. We did go in The Leamington a couple of times when picking up a pizza from next door but it was so awful we don't regret its passing. You can't have real ale in a pub that is shaken by the trains passing by. The Castle by North Acton is good although being on a traffic island doesn't give it much allure. The walk there is awful.Perhaps the new development of the Friary Green site will attract a proper pub rather than a wine bar.In the meantime, we will keep going to The Rocket and The George and Dragon.We also note that Weatherspoons has a beer festival on and beer is selling at £2.00 a pint.
