I'm looking for someone with a good eye and handy with a drill to put up some pictures. Couple of hours work. Any recommendations gratefully received.

Having read all the comments re the extotionate price for hanging a few pictures.just shows how much we miss the services of a local handyman . They were jolly, happy go lucky retirees who were not out to make a living but wanted to remain useful, feel needed and make use of their DIY skills built up over years of DIY at home or for other family memebers. At 83 years of age I still do a bit of gardening for neighbours. What are my fees.? NOTHING ..just a thank you suffices.

People who charge hourly rate don't actually work every hour of the day. They often have to travel to jobs which takes up half their time. if they are self employed they spend time looking for jobs and doing their admin. They also have expenses to cover with their fee. If you don't want to pay the rates you can always invest in tools to do it yourself. A mobile masseur might charge £60 for an hour massage but only do 12 massages per week. After expenses, including child care which is not tax deductible, there is not an awful lot left for George O.

People charge that amount because a) they can and b)they might have no other work for that day. They also should have seperate insurance for working in someone's house. It does seem a lot for putting up some shelves etc.

£35 per half hour - that's the equivalent of £140,000 salary. Crazy even by London standards! He must have been rubbing his hands together after that job!

Lukas recently put up some pictures/ mirrors for me, 8 items took around 80 minutes for him to do (he charged £80), and he came on a Sunday. Excellent work, he charges £35 per half hour. His number is 07456 261 361

Am aware that a hammer and picture hooks work. Should have said that I need someone with a masonry drill.

You dont usually use a drill. Hammer and picture hooks work fine. Its pretty easy.
