Too fat, too short...and too ugly

So much waste in the supply chain.We never asked for so much discrimination. Our poor labelling system does have a lot to answer for.It is odd that it is perfectly legal to sell food past its Best Before date (and there are shops specifically set up to do this including one in Acton) and yet it is also illegal for charities to give away food that is past its Best Before date.

Remember the reject shop, selling less than perfect items from high street brands at a discount. Maybe we could have a 'Reject Food' supermarket with Ugly fat/skinny produce to really test the willingness of consumers to buy them. Is it not time to abolish the sell/eat by date and trust us to judge when food has gone off!

Plenty that could have been given away to the needy or given to the charities to be sold... or if not good enough made into stuffing or underfelt etc.

Much of what is rejected does not even reach the shops because they usually only purchase Grade1 selected produce.

Thanks - have signed up to Hugh's appeal. His last one, on fish discards, was particularly effective. Let's hope this one is too.
