I've contacted the council about this. It seems the signage is more appropriate for an industrial estate. Between all the billboards and this, Acton is looking pretty unattractive.

I think Acton House will be around longer, the owners of flats here have a share of the freehold.

These shops are not Listed Buildings - according to English Heritage.

Sorry, but this row of shops is listed, so will probably last longer than Acton House...

Don't worry - its right next to the soon-to-be Crossrail station. I bet the planning application for a 98 storey block of flats (tastefully clad in orange and yellow plastic and ready for sale to Singapore) ... is already in the post.

Do you need to apply for permission to repaint a frontage? Yes it is brash but that row of shops has been looking pretty grim and run down for years. I am surprised to hear that there were businesses operating out of them. I thought they were empty.

I agree it looks very unsightly but looking at historic Google Street View it's been unsightly at least as far back as 2008.  At least the 2 useful shops in that parade(Monas Barbers & Parkway cabs) have relocated further up Horn Lane. Any idea when work on the new Sainsburys will commence?

It's opposite the Co-Op. it's owned by the firm behind, the lease ran out for all the little useful shops. It's such an ugly display when the area is improving and even Sainsburys is moving into HSS

If it is Acton House on the right, it used to be a row of small shops with a builders merchant behind. That does not appear to be a change of use, so probably does not require planning permission. Has the builders merchant behind been sold? It seems that many smaller suppliers are being purchased by a few large groups, such as Wickes which I believe were bought by Travis Perkins.
