Should we leave the EU or remain in?

Immigration is a massive thing but lets not forget about making our own laws, Turkey joining the EU, EU democracy and the 70 odd times the UK has pushed for something and been denied every time and the dreaded TTIP !If we don't vote out now we may not get another chance and we'd be condemning our grand children

Unrestricted immigration is a very important issue but far from the only one.

There is only one issue - are we happy to continue with completely unrestricted immigration or do we want to take this opportunity to get back in control? Currently the government doesn't even know how many people are being waved through - it could be 500000 or could it be 1 million. 2 million NI numbers were issued in the last 2 years. Most of the newcomers head for London so we have even more pressure on housing, education and other services. We have taken more than enough people, we need to say now that enough is enough. It doesn't matter what the economic cost is of withdrawal, we have to do it. The long term economic cost of letting unrestricted numbers in will be much higher.

Aside from what they Scots think they want, and there's no guarantee that they will vote to leave the UK if we leave the EU, if the EU commissioners had to stand for election every 5 years and had to state in a mandate what they had planned for us, then they might tick the democratic box. Instead they remain unaccountable and make their plans behind closed doors. There are many countries in the EU with considerable 'out'campaigns and The Netherlands and Sweden may well want their own referendums if we vote 'out'.That's what Brussels is very worried about.

Voting to leave the EU will trigger a another Scottish referendum leading to the disintegration of the UK, and it's absolutely crazy and unnecessary to leave when so many issues we have to deal with are transnational, from terrorism, to climate change, to free markets. Stay in the club and work with others to change it.

There's a long way to go yet, Jean, and there will be plenty of debates before the 23rd of June. I found the BBC's programme about the history of the Union on Tuesday night very interesting. Lots of stuff that I didn't know.

We have a few world-beating projects and businesses, but general education has not kept pace with the rest of the world, and adjusting the exam pass levels does not help, we have allowed expertise to be exported to countries offering cheap production, leaving too few experienced competent people to pass on their skills, and most businesses are struugling to achieve a balance of payments while we are still in the EU, so how could we possibly compete with the rest of the world if we leave? We not only have to compete but also pay back a huge deficit.
