Acton Horn Lane Co-op store re- opened yesterday. Great refurb with better use of space and self service tills.Well done to all concerned a good facility for the area.Next time you there join up as a member as the Members own the Co-op and as members you can have your say about the business  and hopefully pick up some benefits of membership.

Yes Nina,East Acton was a village at that time,the fields around Oak Town and Oak Town Village,give sanctuary to the vast numbers of people escaping from the Great Fire of London in 1666.

And East Acton Lane, which is quite twisty, is said to have been the road through the oak forest (hence Acton) and which was a hunting area frequented by Edward III.  Don't know if there's any truth in this, but it's a pretty story.

Kim,Acton is full of history,one of the original coaching innsstill remains in Acton High Street and still open for trade.

Yep - I walked past yesterday and it looks like they've sacrificed some of the storage room behind the old wine area to put in self service tills.

Horn Lane,so named presumably because in the stage coach daysthe Coachman sounded his horn there notifying the Oak Town  staging house of the coaches impending arrival,Oak Town so called in those days because of the abundance of Oak trees in the area.Oak Town later became the Acton that we know today

One would hope they are introducing self service checkouts. Always seems to be a massive queue whenever I've been in there and only one or two people serving while another stacks shelves!

It's shut for the next fortnight, and is a full refurbishment - inside has been gutted, may well be the aisles are turned the other way.The council planning notice on the other side of the road also mentioned something about a ramp - it already has unimpeded access for all customers so not sure what that's about.

Apparently re-opening at the end of the month.Someone said they were putting air conditioning machines! Also refurbishment.
