Putt in the Park

Is open in Acton Park. £10 per adult, £7 concessions. £28 for a family, 2 adults, 2 children.

My guess is that few from Gospel Oak and beyond are in the projected catchment area for the Putt In The Park - so I don't think that it would have a significant effect on their plans.The fair that has just set-up might well be their biggest driver for wider knowledge of their existence.

That's right. The closures affect the line from Gospel Oak to Barking. This will reduce usage of Acton Central but I have no idea to what extent.

This thread was the first I heard of its existence and Putt in the Park is a twelve minute walk from me although I live in W4. We used to go to the Gunnersbury Park pitch and put quite regularly so a visit to Acton Park is on the cards. The price point is on the high side but presumably that includes equipment rental which the Gunnersbury Park price quoted earlier doesn't.One problem Putt in the Park faces is the closure of a section of the North London Line for an extended period during the Summer which will reduce footfall at Acton Central.

Haven't they opened in the last five minutes? Bit early to be talking of missed opportunities. Like any new small business, I'm sure they'll be trumpeting their existence as they go. It's wonderful to see this bit of our beautiful local park developed.

I dimly recall some isolated outrage about a commercial operation on Metropolitan Open Land but most people were happy to see a new business coming to the area.Can't imagine that this is a soft launch. Half term in Summer term ought to be one of their busiest times. Perhaps they can rely on word of mouth like the Go Karting tracks appear to do.

I haven't seen any advertising or publicity generated by the business itself - unlike for the food market, for example. Is there any? Maybe this is a "soft launch'.And did anyone actually oppose it happening? I don't recall anything more than mild regret the bowls was closing - though it was underused. Certainly no sustained opposition. I don't think scepticism about viability counts....

Good point Andy, Maybe we should post the Putt in the Park on the Chiswick and Ealing Forums. Until I posted about it on the Mums forum, many who don't pass through Acton park or use it where unaware of it's existence. I am surprised they are not advertising it as far as Chiwick and Ealing. Missed opportunity.

When I went passed earlier this week around midday there were about 12 players in all. Not bad for an overcast day although it being half term they may have been hoping for more.The terrace bar looks nice although there were few people out. For those with younger kids it would be a nice way to spend a couple of hours on a sunny day. However, whatever people might claim about 'great value' the fees are prohibitive for families on smaller incomes and the Gunnersbury Park Pitch and Putt offers a cheaper and perhaps better alternative.Their site in Wandsworth Park seems much better positioned with lots of passing trade whereas the Acton one is stuck in a corner of a park. I spoke to neighbours of mine who could easily walk to it and they were unaware of its existence.We should however always be supportive of local business ventures if we can and I will certainly be giving Putt in the Park a go. I think those people who were unhappy that it was given the goahead should move on now and get behind it, not least because if it goes under the site will be vacant and derelict for another few years.

We played for about 75 minutes at the weekend and thought that was incredibly good value for money..particularly following it by walking to the fun fair and being charged £3 to throw three wobbly darts at an target which was over in about 3 seconds....Wish them all the success it is a great addition to Acton

And its actually £8 for adults £6 for children. I can vouch for my 6 year old daughter who loved it. Its not expensive...unless you are forced to play 3 days in a row!! Great fun and very popular so far.

Yes me too, looks great, not cheap mind so wont be part of my morning routine.. Everything is not meant to be for everyone. I have no interest in going on a swing for example or feeding ducks in a pond. Im sure others do they ay.

I would imagine they financed it themselves, given that they already have two other sites (Wandsworth and Battersea).  We're looking forward to giving it a go.

Clearly from what I have just experienced, If they want it do do well, they need to perhaps give players 'rules of play.' I know it's meant to be fun, but golf balls and putters in the air.....Wonder how many days it will be before someone will get hit by a ball/club flying out if someone's hand. Anyway it's £9 per adult, £7 per child. 3 times more expensive than what we pay in Scotland (where people actually know how to putt!)But they do have lovely beer!

I agree Sarah, they may well well price themselves out of the market. The idea of booze for sale is idealistically very nice but I wonder if it will prove to be so?

It does have an alcohol licence apparently - but not one for food as Birdies has the concession.I wonder if I count as a concession...In this area, is it more practical to pay for investment by having moe punters for slightly cheaper or fewer who pay more? Always the critical decision.

If you do the maths here - I hear it costs in the region of £600,000 to instal and if that's correct they would need 85,700 punters through the door. Ok they may make some at the bar but these things have  to pay for themselves to be viable.

That's een more expensive than their existing sites in Wandsworth and Battersea - according to their website.I suppose they have done research into what Acton can bear, but it seems a lot.

Is it a pitch and putt? If so, that seems expensive. You can play 9 holes at Perivale for £11.
