I do hope it's a Lidl

I do hope the alternative to Waitrose is a Lidl. Maybe it is a good thing Waitrose are not coming after all. You really can get some excellent choice in Lidl , i think they would be a breath of fresh air and something different from the usual suspects. Suiting both the well heeled and the less well heeled of Acton. Is there some way we could try to get them to locate themselves in the Oaks?

Aldi sell better food......

Well not everyone. Admittedly I don't use ALDIDL anymore but I found the food TOO cheap, i.e what the hell is in a hotdog for it to cost 5 pence? The queues at the 2 working tills were always a heart sink. I know it allegedly has some good quality stuff but I think its a huge missed opportunity to lose Waitrose. It could've been the tipping point the High Street needed to attract more varied shops. That and the inevitable no show of Curzon cinemas has probably set the High Street back 5 years. 99p shops add nothing apart from a shop front of plastic buckets and we have enough fried chicken shops surely. Independent outlets actually do better in the shadow of a Waitrose or a  Sainsbury's than they ever would do next to a Tennessee chicken (other rubbish chicken shops are available). If you want proof look at the row of shops that has sprung up next to Acton Town tube. It s a buzzing lively little area now Sainsbury's has arrived.

It could also hold Acton back from additional investment.  West Ealing has plenty of pound shops along with Lidl and has simply become a cheap shopping destination and does lack investment from larger players

I agree. It would be something different and I have found Lidl excellent. It also appeals to a very broad spectrum of shoppers. I couldn't quite see the good folk of Chiswick making the trip to Acton for a Waitrose when they have a medium size on on their door step. But everybody likes a LIDL bargain.
