New to Acton and loving it.

We moved here about a month ago and will be here for the next 20 years. I've also spent a fair while reading through the treads on this forum. Since we arrived we've done Putt in the Park (great and great value), Shotgun Studios (great and great fun opening night - not a word on here though), shopped in the great little (but young and growing market) and had some brilliant - and I mean REALLY great - food and drinks in Churchfied Road. Who cares about Waitrose? Love, celebrate and use what you have and it will only get better. Bitch, moan and spend your money elsewhere and the good things will move - but you be able feel smug in the knowledge that your downbeat attitude helped deliver exactly the miserable outcome your predicted.I love Acton, and would advise anyone reading this that you wont get a true picture of the place from this site/forum.

I've just spotted that I said in my earlier post that Acton was "a great place to leave". I meant that Acton is a great place to live!

I don't know about Alan... But we have lived here 5 years and in a beautiful apartment overlooking Vondelpark in Amsterdam prior to here and Buenos Aires before that. We were dubious about coming back to London after such a fab time abroad ... But have never looked back after arriving in Acton. Almost feel guilty for saying - we love where we live!

Quite right. If Alan actually does stay here for the next twenty years hopefully he will come to realise it is such a great place to leave because people who have lived here for the last twenty complain when bad things happen to the area. The tendency of local people not to sit back quietly when negative changes are proposed is one of the hugely positive things about Acton.

So you arrived as a late witness to topical local grief over Waitress and wheelie bins - and the oft-postponed Curzon cinema too.Hang about a bit, like those of us who have already been here over twenty years, and you can contribute to threads on the food market - or the last one - or the next one, street parties - June 12th in several places, the book swap at the station, the EU debate 14th June, which micro-brewery is Acton's finest and whether North China is the best Chinese restaurant in west London.So far, you have only had a front-page snapshot. Rushing to judgment may be premature.

Congrats on your move and welcome! Please don't let the whining about wheelie bins and Waitrose put you off the place. In just a few years, we've made some very lovely friends in our street and around us.
