Piles of rubbish bags on the street

For a second week running the council has failed to collect the rubbish sacks of all the flats in Chaucer Road. It looks dreadful and no doubt attracts vermin.

What I think is interesting is the number of people who obviously were safeguarding their waste to some extent - maybe just not enough or for long enough - and also not being encouraged enough to reduce their waste.  The number of black dustbins which have emerged has been amazing.If we hadn't have felt or didn't feel so intimidated by what the collectors might or mightn't or would or wouldn't take we could have had a much better collection system running.  So much for the in word "control".We have a lot of wheelie bins on the pavement because they are too big for the small front gardens - and who wants to drag one through the carpeted hallway from the back garden. Out of date and totally crazy. There are smaller bins.  Source separate, reduce volume and reduce your waste and ask for them confident that you know about how much you make and how you can legally dispose of it!  Don't forget the supermarket and street recycling banks.www.therubbishdiet.orgwww.myzerowaste.comwww.recyclenow.com

Since the introduction of the dreaded wheelie bins I have noticed that lots of roads have been in a filthy state. Rubbish dropped rubbish dropped by the contractors has been left on the street.There are 2 discarded black plastic bins dull of rubbish in our street, not collected last Thursday.Some front gardens STILL have black bags piled up since before the wheelie bin scheme started.  Some residents are leaving the wheelie bins out on the pavement.Streets off Horn Lane have not been swept recently.Weeds are growing between the paving stones.More bulky items of furniture are being dumped in the street.It makes one wonder how the councillors are convinced that they are doing a great job!It looks like this situation is getting much worse now!

We live on the Chaucer Road and I have been logging messages re this issue on a weekly basis, with pictures and all. We can only hope that they find a long term sensible solution. I have also noticed the piles of rubbish next to the Churchfield Cafe and I did sometimes complain to the council as well. It looks awful and attracts pests. They seem to  think that is the landlord's problem... And so it becomes our problem!

I live on Churchfield Road where there are lots of flats on top of shops. We got a letter a couple of days ago saying that rubbish and recycling will be collected on alternate weeks from now on. Perhaps this is the same on Chaucer?I have written to them as I think this is ridiculous. I suggest others do too if we don't want rubbish everywhere. Where does the council expect people in flats to store two weeks worth of rubbish? One week is hard enough.In their letter they state the council has a target to recycle 50% of waste by 2018. Surely they can see that instead of storing two weeks worth of recycling people are just going to dump their recycling in black bags on that week?!
