Cinema in Acton

This evening on the BBC news at 6 there was an item about old cinemas being reopened in different areas of London. There was also a representative from Curzon  cinemas telling us that there would be several of their cinemas opening and Acton was specifically mentioned. Let's hope they get on and do it soon!

I am sure, a relatively small screen, combined with a cultural hub, would draw in punters from other parts of London as well.The re-opened Bush Theatre is thriving - love it with its new terrace!

This may surprise you to learn but there are films made in other languages but English - in other countries no less! In fact, one of Curzon's USPs is that they play more obscure foreign language films! The films they tend to show are aimed at people with a mental age over 10 - so I can think of at least one member of this forum that won’t get much use from it…

What is so frustrating - and shocking -  is that a genuinely local community arts centre project didn't get a look in when the building became available - Curzon marched in and grabbed it, did absolutely nothing about it, and the building, which could have been developed to offer a much-needed local facility to enhance the community has been left to waste all this time.

The Town team (mixture of traders community groups Council officers) had an update which I thought had been posted. The delay in putting in a planning application lies with Curzon cinemas. In September 2016 they asked for and were granted a 12 month extension to the time they were given to submit, The Director of Regeneration responsible for the decision has left the Council. The Borough Planner doesn't seem to get out much.

I thought it was time to bring this back to life - but I have no new news.Last status that I know of from CCA AGM November 2016"The Council has exchanged contracts with Curzon Corinthian (Curzon’s development arm) to sell the former Acton Library building to be developed as a Curzon Cinema, restaurant and 3-4 residential units on the top floor. Curzon Corinthian is currently preparing a planning application. There is a deadline by which they must obtain planning consent – which is 12 months from the signed agreement date. A variation to the original agreement was signed on 9th Aug 2016 so the deadline for obtaining planning consent is 9th August 2017."So far, no sign of an application on Ealing Planning Portal ... 3 months to go.

Worth saying he listed Curzon's projects in order of construction - and Acton was fourth - so could still be years.

Unless some one wants to correct me,in the Acton area in 1961there were seven Cinemas.
