I think it is self-evident that there has been a drastic cut to the street cleaning schedule since the wheelie bins were introduced.I have repeatedly asked the council, via the complaints page of their website, and direct to Julian Bell and Bassam Mahfouz via Twitter, if they will make a public statement on the changes to street cleaning services agreed with Amey. I have not had an acknowledgment, let alone an an answer.Prior to the wheelie bins, the policy was to sweep weekly, with a deep clean of gulleys etc. every 4 weeks. Now it seems to have ceased altogether.I assume the Council's silence is because they do not want to admit that they have axed street cleaning services to help fund the the £3m capital cost of introducing the wheelie bins.Wheelie bins do not deal with leaves and general litter, and if you live near a park, as we do, leaves are a problem even in summer, let alone autumn.In the pre wheelie bin era, the Council used to proudly announce how the borough's clean street ranking was improving. It must now rank among the worst in London.If Bassam Mahfouz or his colleagues are reading this, can you please make some sort of public statement on street cleaning policy since the introduction of wheelie bins?If street sweepers have been sacked, and service levels changed, this must be announced publicly. And remedial action is needed to get the filth off our streets.
