Well Dennis, what can I say? Maybe those hand made pots hidden in certain locations along Acton High Street were more expensive than we thought???They did put the letters A C T O N on the bridge over The Vale which lights up at night.Oh yes, and a large mural plastered on to that ugly building in the High Street - BTW it is STILL ugly!Sadly I can think of more reasons NOT to visit Acton High Street right now:See Filthy Acton thread!!!Too many Betting ShopsToo many Estate AgentsShops taking up half the pavement with their sometimes rotting vegetables.Too many empty shopsProblems with car parking - and the Churchfield Road car park is closing mid August (sold by Ealing Council to the developer)The loss of shops such as Iceland, Peacocks, Poundstretcher which were in The Oaks until they were booted out.The promise of a Waitrose to persuade residents to stop protesting about the redevelopment of 'The Oaks' and now we know Waitrose had no intention of returning to Acton!!!At present we have no idea what kind of supermarket will be persuaded to come to Acton, many would think twice looking at the state of the high Street right now!Although there has been talk of a cinema so far this is only a pipe dream. It seems every building is being turned into flats, even the old Town Hall.I love Acton and it is very sad to see the place deteriorate to such an extent that I now prefer to shop in Ealing Broadway where there is much more variety. When they have the market stalls in Ealing Broadway there is a much nicer choice available, sorry but the market stalls outside Morrisons are not that interesting.Let's hope that things improve in Acton High Street soon but I shan't hold my breath!
