Campaign for Plastic Bottles to have a Returnable Deposit

http://messageinabottle.org.uk/We used to have bottles like these and we could return to them.Other countries have them. It puts a value on the bottle which encourages people to dispose of them more carefully.

There are also calls for more water fountains and for drinking water to be more available in restaurants - do read the introduction to the report - if not the report!There are an awful lot of bottles which are not making it into the recycling box - hope a deposit return system will encourage this and reduce the amount of littering.

Please sign and share the petition that Surfers Against Sewage have calling for this.www.messageinabottle.org.ukThis organisation campaigns against pollution in the sea and organises beach clean ups.  They see the amount of plastic which with a bit more encouragement could so easily never be polluting our environment.

Yep, exact same in the Netherlands. I've actually spotted Evian bottles in UK supermarkets sporting a label with its return value in eurocents. It would be brilliant if a similar system could be introduced here.

It still happens in Germany. You see old people having a look in the waste bins for the odd plastic bottle of beer bottle to take back to the supermarket to feed through the machine for a refund.

When I was a child, living in Belgium it was us children's job to feed the empties on the conveyor belt at the supermarket, each bottle was worth a few francs which amounted to a fair whack in our household, the total was deducted to the shopping bill. In LA I noticed homeless people pushing carts full of empties they could trade in for cash.
