Wheelie Bin Collection

Unbelievable conversation with Ealing Council. General Waste bin not collected last Thursday. As i did not report it within 24 hours, was told nothing they could do about it. I said what happens if its an old person or people have gone away for long weekend etc. I was told their is nothing they can do about it. All other bins in street were collected and i think they just forgot mine. It was not overfull and was by our gate. Reason for rant is so other people know, you must report a missed collection within 24 hours.

I had my bin left  unemptied this week. Did as the "  help  " brochure suggested,  ie  fill in the form online and submit the same day before 1 p.m.  Next day nearly 3 p.m. not collected. SO ..this time phoned the free number. Usua lhassle of getting to speak to a person  Nearly an hour later a voice at last. ( just as well not needing to go to work ! ) Although I had received a reply to it online nice young man could not find  my online form . SO.....nice young man on the line redid the form for me gave me a reference number  and said today the bin would be collected.Went out to check said bin this morning and it had been emptied ! WHAT A NOVELTY . Many thanks to the nice young man. Pity it was such a hassle to get it emptied. Half a day gone messing around with phone calls and online form filling.

Here in West Acton we've seen a huge increase in street rats and foxes since the fortnightly launch. Absolutely disgraceful.

If the collections become even less frequent it will be even more difficult.  Just as you have to keep complaining and keep a record re noise nuisance the same will happen regarding lack of collection.  Not everybody needs their waste collected fortnightly but some do and a missed collection is a problem.  It should be our choice not whether the collection team feel like emptying them. I've noticed that the collection team seem to be unable to open a alleyway gate to take the VERY obvious wheelie bin standing visibly just behind it. If it was outside the gate then it would be on the pavement which it is not supposed to be.  Somebody needs to take the collection crews to task.  They are hoping that we will just give up and make their lives easier. Keep on complaining.Keep Britain Tidy told me that they should be checking all bins to see if the bag needed taking out.  Funny but I never expected that to happen at all.

Philip, I had an identical problem. I reported it online as was given a response for a totally different issue. I complained again and in the end just took it down to Bollo Lane myself as I couldn't be bothered to argue any more.Rather like budget airlines, I find dealing with Ealing council and their sub contractors fine until something goes wrong then you really see the quality (or lack of).

Oh I dont know Pilippa. If my bins are where I left them in the morning when I get home rather than scattered all over the place I can tell that they haven't been missed!

I think they are building a nappy recycling plant in Hayes.  I'm sure that there will be a good business from nursing homes.I don't think the time restriction works very well for reporting since the majority of households nowadays won't have anybody home to see whether the bin has been emptied.It was easier to see a black sack...

A lot of people won't bother to report a non-collection at all.  However not everyone is going to be able to manage waiting twice a long for a collection.  It's even worse when the food waste isn't collected in hot weather because although it is a weekly collection that doesn't mean that everybody was in the previous week in order to put it out. Although it is lovely when neighbours help out you can't expect them to as so few are around during the day and for your neighbours to rinse out your food waste bin would be rather special!

Anglesey as reported in Manchester Evening NewsThe changes in Anglesey are being brought in as the council tries to meet recycling targets and dodge fines by the Welsh government.The fortnightly nappy collection will only be provided to families with children up to three years old, and everyone else will have to manage to squeeze the soiled nappies in with their normal household waste to be collected only once every three weeks.In response to residents' complaints, an Anglesey Council spokesman said: “Evidence collated by our waste management team suggests that most children are potty trained between the ages of two and three.“It has therefore been agreed to offer this service up until a child’s third birthday.“Requesting a copy of a child’s birth certificate will allow us to monitor the number of children benefiting from the service and their respective ages.“It should be noted that this service will only be provided to the home address of the child and does not extend to any nursery, crèche or child minding service they may attend.”
