This year's energy auction it taking place on Tuesday, and you have to sign up by Monday if you want to participate. I have just done so after getting an excellent deal last year (when it was mentioned in the council magazine).It is easy and straightforward. You sign up for the auction, they compile an anonymous list of the people who have signed up and their approximate energy consumption, the energy companies can bid for all these potential new customers by offering a discounted deal, the cheapest deal is then passed on to all those who have registered, and you can then decide if this is a good deal for you.
