Oppose the third runway

From John McDonnell: My response to the Government’s announcement today to support a third runway at Heathrow in my constituency:“I’ve campaigned against this runway for over 30 years and in that time Heathrow have never managed to win the argument for expansion which still remains the case today.“Nothing has changed. Building a third runway would be devastating for local residents who face losing their homes, schools, community centre and village life. It also remains a disaster for air pollution, noise levels and our efforts to tackle climate change.“4000 homes face the prospect of either being demolished or rendered unliveable by air pollution and noise. This means 8 to 10 thousand people being forcibly removed from their homes. We have not seen anything on this scale in our country’s history.“I’ll continue to support my constituents in campaigning against this runway so that it never sees the light of day.”

Yes I remember it well! But I don't think most of the people who were there have lived under a flight path. We will have to rerun the debate once the runway is built and see whether people still feel the same. I have lived under a flight path in my home town of Windsor and it is pretty unbearable.

The CCA ran a fascinating debate on this subject earlier in the year. Maybe you were there. A show of hands at the end showed the audience narrowly in favour of the runway.

He should chain himself to the runway in protest.  Would be more useful than the opposition that him and his party are supposed to be providing in parliament.
