You do realise that some of the people you mention below have raised millions of pounds for charity. Izzard, for instance raised over £1 million this year for sport relief, running 27 Marathons. Over his career Geldof has helped raise tens of millions of pounds for African charities. These people devote a huge amount of time to raising this money, and leverage their celebrity status to great effect. I very much doubt 'an average joe' would have been able to raise the same amount of money as Izzard had they run 27 marathons this year. Likewise, I don't have a hope in hell of organising concerts all over the world in support of worthwhile charities, because unlike Geldof, I wasn't in the Boomtown Rats. It's ridiculous to suggest that these celebrities don't do their part, simply because they don't do anything as tangible as housing a few refugees. There is a certain cost-benefit analysis involved, and realistically, Izzard et al. can help a far greater number of people by devoting his time to huge charitable causes, rather piecemeal donations and acts.
