WHEELIE BINS

Residents are told NOT to leave Wheelie Bins on the pavement, perhaps someone should hammer this home to the operatives working for AMEY the Council's contractors!This morning every Wheelie Bin in our street was just dumped on the pavement outside each property! I have now sent an email to the council.Leaving these things cluttering up the pavement is not only ugly but it sends a message that the residents may not be at home.Perhaps it is time for Ealing Council to either ensure that their contractors carry out their duties to our satisfaction or rethink the whole scheme and bring it in-house instead of using outside contractors which may be more efficient and cost effective.The street sweeping is not regular enough, especially with Autumn leaves and they should not sweep the leaves into the drain as this causes further problems when it rains.

Yes. Residents can apply for something called assisted collection. Unfortunately you have to apply on line. if you know anyone who needs this, maybe be a good neighbour and fill in the form on their behalf. But do check if that's what they want. An older friend of mine simply didn't want a bin at all. She puts most of her food waste on a compost heap and burns paper. Hardly uses plastics, doesn't eat meat,so what little waste she generates goes in her neighbour's bin.

Do the contractors have a list of the disabled who are unable to bring the bins back in so they can put them back after emptying.

There will be a walkabout on Monday morning by Officers from waste and recycling at the Council accompanied by a selection of residents. Jean are you coming? They will be taking note of abandoned wheelie bins or those kept on the pavement.Time is limited so I doubt they will get down every street. If there is a lonely  bin on your street could you send me a photo with the postal code or other identifier and we will give the Council a list? Thank you.

It also makes it incredibly awkward for anyone with a pram or walking difficulties to get past.
