Janice,Zig Zag lines mean do not park at any time,with the exception of Vehicles being used by Emergency Services,or being given permission to park by a Police officer or PCSO,Regards, John.

Afraid to say you cannot trust what Wardens tell you and if they give you wrong information and you get a ticket you would have to pay it as you are in charge of the car and your responsibility to buy a ticket.  I was tricked once when there was 5 minutes to go, the Warden said you don't need a ticket with only 5 minutes to go before free parking, when I return to the car she had issued a fine.

Richard. Drury Lane. There is Google  street view. In my post for the 28/10 13:31. The publican certainly said It was ok to park after 6.30 and the street was full of cars when we returned. None had tickets. I was wondering if he knew that wardens don't work after 6.30 in that area. I was once told by a warden in uniform in Chiswick outside the police station that I didn't have to pay for parking before 9 as they didn't start work until then even though the sign said from 8. I may have that time wrong but you get they idea.

"you can park on single yellows in that area after 6.30pm"But not if there's a no waiting sign above the SYL, as in this case, that gives a different restriction. If a road has a waiting restriction at certain times but waiting (parking) is allowed at other times, then you can have both a yellow line and parking bay markings.  There's an example nearer home in Brentford High Street where there are off-peak parking bays on a peak-hours bus lane.But to my mind this sign is highly confusing. It's clear that outside the stated times, parking is not allowed. But does the sign mean that parking is only allowed during term time, or that the 10-minute maximum stay only applies during term time?  And in any case, "term time" is imprecise.What street is this sign in?

What I found confusing was the single yellow line within what looks like a cpz but wasn't, as you can park on single yellows in that area after 6.30pm

I agree, it is quite a lot to take in, especially if you're in a hurry, but not too difficult to translate, for the most part. As you wanted to park for the theatre, the bit about the 10 mins parking for school was not relevant, so you just had to concentrate on the other stuff, which clearly gives the two periods when it's OK to park, Mon to Fri. If it had been the weekend, I would have been unsure, but I suppose the "No Parking at any time" bit covers that.btw, Chris Veasey, what are "offcucmduns"?

...No parking at any time, except school pick up and drop off times ( hence the specified times) and you can only be there for 10 mins and within term times. No, you can't return within the hour as that would be cheating.  You can't use it at weekends or when the school is only holiday. Looks like only the local parents to the school would risk this one. I notice the google photo posted shows completely empty bay for good reason!

Interesting (no I don't get out much nowadays except on transport/ traffic consultancy work) -  I think whoever designed that set of road markings there has misinterpeted the legislaton and regs -  but it's possible I have - as SYL means no waiting for any lesser period than 24/7/364/5 it might be argued that those limited parking permitted periods make SYL rather than DYL appropriate. I see there's a school just down the road that is no doubt the reason for the 10 min parking period, for parents -  but as the national ruling is parents can park on yellow lnes or n CPZ parking bays for up,mto 10 mons anyway  don't see the need for a specially (amd complicatedly) signed restriction/parking concession. Certainly that sign is unforgiveably complicated and confusing.

Yes it is confusing in cases lke that, and (if they realym must have a restricton of that complexity) it needs a explanatory sign or notice in plain English underneath to explain it -  but  know of no instance if that being done for waiting restrictions.

Do you mean SYL between two CPZ parking bays delineated by the usual broken white line boxes? -  if so, then the 'No waiting at any time' sign is not valid as it should be accompanied by DYL (or school yellow zigzag or other such) making clear the length of kerbside the 'Any time' restriction applies to -  so in that case the sign can be disegarded and the standard operational hours in that CPZ apply to the SYL.

No certanly not -  'Any time' means exactly that -  if it meant during operatng hours it would state those hours, not' Any time'. Are the accompanying yellow lines single or double? - or is it a yellow school zigzag marking, or something else?

Sorry the pub person misinformed you and your were lucky to get away wth it  - it clearly says (no waiting) At any time -  it would say '(whatever start time) to 6.30 pm' if your misinformant was right. Perhaps that's a nasty trick such local yokels like to play on offcucmduns like you.

Ah, and since that's in central London ('Cities' of Westminster and London, Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and that part of Borough of Camden south of Marylebone Road and Euston Road you can't use a blue badge to park there durng the prohibited periods  - only people who live in any of those areas and have the extra local disabled persons' parking badge can.

Thats what i understood too so I asked someone in the pub which it was in front of and apparently it does not apply after 6.30pm . So I parked without a problem madness.

Yes waiting does mean parking - as opposed to stopping briefly to drop off/ pick up passenger(s) or for loading or unloading of heavy and/or bulky goods for up to 20 mins.

That's a classic which I'll regale my fellow transport and traffic professionals with.But (having looked at it for a while and thought hard) no you can't park at 6.30, any day of the year/ decade/ millennium/ eternity. You can only park there (but only for 10 mins max in any 70 min period) during the two time periods stated, and then only Mon-Fri, and then only during term time - but what term times? - state school terms or private school terms or college terms or university terms or some other? -  and does the half-term break count as term time or not, since it is within the term??

The top symbol is no waiting at any time, so think you can only wait within the times shown and term time you can only wait 10 minutes (not 1 hour) hope my translation is correct, wait for further replies!!!!
